I was frothing at the mouth to get in the door at this show, because two of my favorite bands, Children of Bodom and The Black Dahlia Murder, were playing. I have never seen either of them live before, so I undoubtedly had the butterflies before it all started.
The two opening acts, Skeletonwitch and The Black Dahlia Murder, had some great songs, but nobody in the back of the venue was really getting into it. My wife and I were the only two showing the horns and headbanging. The lead singer from Skeletonwitch was a cool, guy, and they definitely got me interested in them, as I had never heard their music before.
The Black Dahlia Murder played a lot of their newer stuff, which I am not too familiar with. They played (I believe) 6 or 7 songs, and only one of which I recognized, Funeral Thirst. Overall though, they were good. I am still trying to figure out why their lead singer has "heartburn" tattooed on his stomach, though. Broken heart, or acid reflux?
But when Children of Bodom took the stage, the whole place blew up. They traveled over all of their albums, playing classics like "Lake Bodom", and old stand-bys like "Hate Me!" I still felt like the audience was not giving them enough energy, but we were screaming the lyrics and jumping up and down the whole time. They were even so kind to come back out and perform a 2-song encore, which was great. I will certainly remember this show for a long time
