The idea of a concert delivering music from the soundtracks from some of the most recognizable games in the industry is wonderful. Much like the feelings of the creators of this performance, I believe that the artistry of video games is far too often overlooked. The concert itself was great. There was a ton of energy and the music really reflected that. Even though the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra was performing these songs, it wasn't your typical "hush hush" type of concert. People were encouraged to get excited about the music which is what video games are all about. They want you to get excited about what you love. I believe this concert delivered on that idea and would definitely recommend it to others and I will be going in the future if it returns to the area.

We enjoyed the live feed to the creator of the video game. The pianist that played the
video music was awesome. The audience was really into the kid that was chosen
to play Guitar Hero on stage. He went for the expert level on Aerosmith's Sweet
Emotion and was terrific. The Youth Choir really added a lot to the overall sound coming
from the orchestra. The symphony orchestra was a delight to listen to.

The soundtracks of the video games are beautiful! The Oregon symphony was wonderful, the choir too. The show was like walking down memory lane...and even the video and music of the games I knew nothing about was amazing. It was a very educational and fun evening. The interactive part of the show when fans in the audience came up and competed for prizes was very entertaining and the enthusiasm of the fans was contagious!

I took my gamer boyfriend and we both had an awesome time. It was so much fun! Lots of audience interaction and the Oregon Symphony/Youth choir had a fantastic performance. Tony Tallarico and Jack Wall are talented guys and a couple of dorks who know how to put on a good show. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who's ever played video games, from classic Mario Bros to Metroid Prime. Like I said, lots of Fun!

Sixteenth century rock & roll goes nova!!! Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach would have loved it. The power of a full orchestra is awesome and when backed by an enthusiastic chorus and fronted by electric guitar, it all jumps to warp speed... I was moved to tears and swept to ecstasy in an emotional ride far and wide... This performance was what this hall was built for! DO IT AGAIN!!!!!!!

Really happy I was able to make this event. Great time, great opportunity for the kids to hear the symphony play their favorite game music, and also brought back some great memories for a child of the 80's myself.

The orchestra, choir and audience combined to produce one of the highest levels of enthusiasm I have ever felt at a concert. A powerful and sometimes fun look at video games since their inception.
The only drawback - I was sitting in a "cheap" seat up in the nosebleed section and the spotlights that would occassionally come one would hit me right in the eye and stay there sometimes for several minutes. Kind of spoiled the music when I couldn't watch the graphics being displayed.

Though a little schmaltzy in some places, the main program was very good. It was great to hear unusual music played by the symphony but the standout performance was the Portland Youth Choir. Every piece they sang on was superior to the rest of the music. It would be incredible to see these young people in a concert of their own singing songs other than the usual choral fare. Those voices and the modern surrealist composers...
I got tears in my eyes at the beginning of the "Halo" piece.

Very hip, using the class of a classical music concert and the raw enthusiasm and crowd roaring of a rock concert. Even intermission was fun with videos. Lots of audience participation. I only hope they come out with a 2nd album soon, I can't wait!

This concert was incredible! I'd been to Final Fantasy Live, but this experience was totally different. It was high energy, interactive, and the audience could really get into it. They pulled 2 people on stage to play Space Invaders and Guitar Hero while the band played the music. They brought out the YouTube sensation Martin Leung who played the Mario Bros theme and others blindfolded. He even took video game music requests! They had the creator of Pong live on Skype for an interview (albeit a poor connection). Concert host Tommy Tallarico hid under a box like Solid Snake as a guard scoured the stage looking for him. All-in-all this event was awesome! Put on by nerds, for nerds, it was incredible.

It was a very interesting spin on an unsung hero of the music industry. Tommy Talarico is doing a great service to music composers in the digital era. As he says, he truly takes blips and bloops and shines a brand new light on how the gaming music industry is developing. It was entertaining for kids and adults alike.

our family of 5 went to the portland "video games live" show and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. for us as parents, it was a walk down memory lane as they played through video games of the past - so much fun! our kids totally enjoyed the show from beginning to end. seeing clips from the video games in conjunction with the music by the symphony was soo cool. all of the special effects made for an incredible show that the entire audience obviously enjoyed with all their hootin' & hollerin'. it was the funnest "out of the box" symphony experience that any adult or child could ever experience!

I took my 16 year old grandson to this event to expose him to the orchestra. He was interested because it had to do with video games. I must say I was amazed at how much work goes into the music of a game. We both thoroughly enjoyed the program and would go again if it came back to Portland. He called all his friends to tell them about it. So cool.

I would never have taken my child if I had known that extremely violent killing scenes were going to be shown above the symphony stage. There should be a content warning for those considering whether to buy a ticket.
The general musical quality was not what I would expect from a performance being shown in association with the Oregon Symphony.
After a hundred performances, the show should have looked smooth and professional, but instead it seemed rough around the edges.
The language of the two hosts wasn't clever or imaginative, as I would have expected from a long-running program.
The choices of different games and songs seemed uneven and unexplained.
The show lacked the creativity I expected.
It seemed like two guys making a buck off a trend, without demonstrating creativity or talent.
Bottom line: I would like a refund.
