Hayes Carll's sense of humor in his lyrics came through in spades during this awesome show. Backed up by The Warren Hood Band, the show was pure fun. Carll has a great stand-up comic patter between songs which gave us background on how/why he wrote them.
A real find, though, was Emily Gimble, who plays keyboard for the back-up band. Her pipes and keyboard work are outstanding. It's understandable since her grandfather is Johnny Gimble, Texas fiddle player extraordinaire, while her father, DIck GImble, is also a well-know Texas musician. But it was her singing that really stood out. Truly on the order ot a Janis Joplin-a real belter. Turns out she was just voted Keyboardist of the Year in Austin.
Fun show with a tight back-up/opening act band. See it.
