The English beat sounded great. They had high energy, stage presence and appeared to be having an enjoyable time playing. The venue was intimate with no apparent sound issues and there was not a bad seat in the house. The only downside was that there was no merchadise available and the volunteers that were seating and taking tickets (while friendly) needed better training.

of the many years that i have attended shows at Montalvo, i have never been there when the carriage house has been rocking. there was excitement all through the show and i think that it caused a few problems in which a few people left early but it was very good and very exciting!

Opening act(s): Umbrella Band? Okay band but bad sound mix. Opening song was horrible. Got better as it went. Guitarist went through nightmare tech issues during first song. @

My expectations were exceeded a thousandfold. Dave Wakling was amazing and very humorous too! The sound man made the songs sound as good as the recordings we used to listen to. Energy and fun all night long. I can't wait until I can see English Beat again! My daughter and her boyfriend came with us and they enjoyed it s much as we did!

The band continues to amaze the crowd. Dave Wakeling seems so happy to perform and always gives an A+ performance. Highly recommend you see the English Beat any chance you get !!

We will never go back to Culture Room again...would like somewhere other than an outside patio to sit. Too many pushy drunks...only one original member of the English Beat...opening act was great...left early when the crowd began banging into us constantly....

The venue, Jannus Landing Live, is an open roof "club", ( we were surprised , not having that info) and provides no seating . We were a bit worried the event might be cancelled due to the rain and some lightening. But when The English Beat hit the stage, the sky cleared and it was beautiful. The ground was wet (asphalt) so there were puddles around. The show its self was fantastic! The band was so personable, so generous with the music and affection for the fans, I think all felt the love! Many danced and swayed and the crowd was enthusiastic!!

Took my 20 year old daughter to the show and had a blast! The guys let her up on the stage for Mirror in the Bathroom and she rocked it. The EB has been passed on to a new generation, my life's work complete. Lot of new faces in the line-up behind lead Dave Wakefield, but the sound was tight and clean, and the sax player wailed note for note. The band was super cool and hung around after the show to chat it up. The Culture Room was an excellent venue, plenty of room to bounce. Wide selection of merchandise ranging from classic Special Beat Service to Rough Rider tees. My only regret was they didn't close with End of the Party, otherwise a near perfect flashback to American University circa 1985.

It was a night of ska music two bands came on before the English Beat Dave Wakeling came out and played all their hits and played a couple of covers. Ir was a really fun night!

I have seen the English beat in the 80's, 90's, 00's and now in the 10's( that just looks weird ) and I can say they are still going strong and are as great today as they ever were!

Great to hear songs I love from the past. Lead singer Dave Wakeling's voice is definitely the voice of The English Beat that I know and love.
A fun gig. The Canyon was a great venue. Parking was amazingly easy. Walked in during the first song of the gig and was able to squeeze my way in to a great standing view of the band on stage.

Overall a great experience.

To see Dave today is more about reminiscing then reliving. In 2009 he came to ATL with full band (most importantly - lead guitarist) and they rocked, and had to after Bad Manners opened in full throttle. But here in 2012 (and last year) he is without lead guitar and trumpet, and the songs are not quite what they were. His toaster (with him for many years) is always a good Roger, new sax guy was very average. But Dave still gave us hour 45 min for the 20 bucks, played all the hits and did not disappoint. But be prepared for 2012 version, not 1982 (or even 2009).

The English Beat took me back to some great memories from college. I was fortunate to have my oldest son (26) there with me. He likes ska, is a fan of the Beat, and was blown away by how tight the band performed. Dave Wakeling still knows how to have a good time!

Really great show! Sound was close to studio recordings. High energy. Dave Wakeling looks so happy to entertain and got the audience involved. Other band members were great too. Venue was comfortable with seating and dancing areas (dancing areas could have been bigger).

When we saw the group coming to Atlanta and the prices were really cheap $50 for two tickets including the handling charge, we thought where could you go for that and have a great evening out.......
Anyway we remembered the group from our 80s and always thought well for that price its a good night out even if it was a let down.....which turned out to be a great event, good humour and dancing.
When we got inside we were told we could sit,stand anywhere, and we got a stage area raised with a table and chairs.....excellent!
