Considering the limitations of presenting a stage version of Mary Poppins in the smallish New Amsterdam Theater, there is no question a magnificent job was done by all involved in the production of this charming, entertaining two hour and forty-minute show!
It is essential you enter the theater with the understanding you will not be watching Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, etc., and musn't try to compare the stage version to the film. Once you have done that, the rest is SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS.
The young children in the audience were enchanted and squealed with delight at the same moments our children did years earlier. My wife and I attended with our two sons (now 20 and 21) to celebrate our 28th anniversary, hoping for an enjoyable family experience. We were not disappointed!
The additional dialogue, songs and plot adjustments from the film did not take away from the enjoyment of the show. On the contrary, it was done seamlessly and in tip-top fashion.
The length of the show may test the patience of the younger children (one family had to leave at intermission), but overall this is a fantastic family event that will please all, young and old!!!

I took my grandchildren , ages 5 & 7, and my son and daughter-in-law. We all loved it. The children have watched the movie many times...so they knew all the songs and the storyline. They were mesmerized!! My little grandaughter lives to sing and takes dancing and tap lessons. Duting the tap number she could barely stay in her seat. Her little feet were going a mile a minute under her seat.
They especially loved when Bert danced up to the ceiling.
And were spellbound when Mary Poppins flew out over the audience and rose up right in front of us in the front row of the balcony!
They will remember the show forever.

I went to see Mary Poppins with family and i must say i was suprisingly amazed. I recently found the Disney movie that i adored as a kid as teduous, boring and outdated as an adult. However this musical was well paced, having dropped a number of long, boring, silly scenes from the movie and replacing them with some really enjoyable and creative ones in its place. The Banks Kids (2 adorable tiny blonde kids)were amazing. Dare I say that Steffanie Leigh and Gavin Lee are far superior vocally then Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke? They sure are, and its not even close!

This is true Broadway at it's finest. Mary Poppins is a first class act that can be enjoyed by all. The acting and music is outstanding and the set design is something that other shows should aspire to become. I would venture to say that this show sets the bar for all other musicals. Do your family a favor and take them to this production it is worth every penny you will spend.

I'm a big fan of Broadway shows but haven't seen Mary Poppins until recently. The reason for that was because I thought it was a show for kids. It turned out an amazing show that anybody at any age can enjoy. I was lucky enough to get a seat in the first row and found that a majority of the audience in the first row was adults. Yes, Mary Poppins flies during the show but I didn't expect she flies high up to the ceiling!

I had a fabulous time watching this show with my nieces (7 & 8),sister, and father. It was simply amazing and well done. I was left 100% amazed of the whole performance---simply a great show for anyone to go see weather with family, friends, or even a date---really a great story and wonderful memories for anyone.

Is too bad that only when a show announces it's closing, people flock and fill the theater. By now Mary Poppins unfortunately already closed on Broadway. This show did not disappoint and hopefully it will be brought back one day. I believe all the adults were as mesmerized as the children, especially when Mary Poppins flew right in the audience's face. It was magical and an experience our children will never forget.

The show was so entertaining. My husband was dragged there by me and upon exiting the show he says that was the best show we saw so far. We saw alot of broadway shows.

I would recommend this for anyone who loves the movie, and even for those who have never seen it. The set was beyond amazing, it's incredible what people can do on a stage. The whole time you are asking yourself, how on earth are they doing that?! You won't regret sepnding your money on this. Hopefully they bring it back on Broadway since they've closed. I would pay to see it again!

This was the second time that my wife and I saw this show. On this occasion, we brought our 5-year old daughter and 6 year old niece and it was spectacular! We were surprised to know that we were watching the last performance of Mary Poppins and had the pleasure of seeing other cast members who acted in previous shows. The look on my daughter and nieces eyes was priceless!

My 6 year old was on the edge of her seat the entire night. She loved seeing Mary Poppins fly above the audience. The show had excellent stage effects. Simply spectacular!

My wife and I had the best time at the theater. She said that it was probably the best show that she has seen on Broadway in many many years.
We both loved the beautiful scenery changes and the many special effects that were used in the show.
The actress who played Mary Poppins had a marvelous voice and danced very competently.
The theater itself was a total work of art. We talked with one of the ushers after the show and he gave us some information on the theater. He said that it is the only Art Nouveau theater in the city and that some $80,000,000 dollars was spent on restoring the theater.
We did buy the book explaining the history of the theater.
We look forward to seeing Aladdin next year at the theater.
