This is my fourth time seeing Bloc Party. The first time I saw them in 2005, also at the Tabernacle, was one of the top five shows I have ever seen, period. My next two Bloc Party experiences were not nearly as strong; I got a sense from Kele that he was not that interested in performing, especially Silent Alarm material. I was not surprised when the band broke up a few years later.
However, I love the revived Bloc Party. Four is a great album and back to the basic theme that made Silent Alarm such a groundbreaking album. This show this week was also mostly back to the old Bloc Party. There were moments when it looked like Kele was upset for one reason or another, and he did make a few mistakes throughout the show, but his attitude was back where it should be. When Kele is happy, Bloc Party is at their best and the audience is happy.
The band really knows how to rock. Matt Tong is one of my favorite drummers of all time and he delivered as well.
They are truly a sight to see and hear live, and I highly recommend them to others.
