Walked into the show just after 9:00pm to see VibeSquaD (Aaron Holstein) already on. Not really my cup of tea but def getting the party started. Lots of rap mixed in with minimal live instrumentation. It's a big change from seeing Aaron in Zilla, thats for sure. Lotus came on at 10:20pm with Kodiak, a song from Build their new album, which I don't personally like. Next, they played Nematode from Germination their first album segued into We Are Now Connected. Right away I could tell it was going to be a nice mix of songs from the new album and classic gems like Nematode. By mid-way through their first set Lotus was fully warmed up and getting the ball rolling! They ended the set with a crowd favorite, Tip of the Tongue, at 11:10pm. Started back up at 11:40 with another song from the new album, Break Build Burn. My favorite part of the second set musically was the Lead Pipe > Shimmer And Out, so good except for the kid behind me wouldn't stop yelling in my ear during it. Jammed the second set fairly old school liquid Lotus in my opinion. Good beer, music, and friends = a great night!
The El Ray has excellent sound and great site lines. I would recommend seeing anyone you can their and Lotus is always a good show in my experience.
