Alright, first, let's be clear: Brian Posehn delivered a good show on par with what fans have come to expect, with a lot of new material. No complaints there.
Unfortunately, the venue booked the opening acts, who they seem to regularly use as openers. The comic in the MC/host spot, a pudgy guy named John (I'd love to give his full name, but I didn't catch it) who forced the audience to sit through a 20 minute set of obvious jokes on easy targets like The Jersey Shore delivered with faux anger and a bad Lewis Black Cadence, only to reprise his performance again between the featured act and headliner. The show would have been infinitely better with a cold open, or better yet a real comic. Even a band might have been better, given the venue and Posehn's connection to metal fans.
Starland's not really set up to be a comedy club either. Tables were set up for those in the lower area, but the rest was standing room, which is not a great environment for comedy. I enjoyed Brian's set, but I'd rather see him at The State Theater or a comedy club like The Stress Factory.
