Having seen the original cast and production (and a number of less than stellar local productions) I was pleasantly surprised at the recent Broadway revival of "Ragtime" (one of my all-time top 4 or 5 musicals). It was beautifully staged and sung with a top-notch full orchestra. Other than Christiane Noll the cast is, for the most part, relatively new Broadway talent. Bobby Steggert was a stand-out as Mother's Younger Brother (a name to watch in the future) as was Stephanie Umoh as Sarah. My 20-year-old daughter (an NYU acting student) said hands-down she preferred it to "Billy Elliott" and I thought the producers of "A Little Night Music" (which I caught the previous evening) could take a lesson (or three) in Broadway level production values from seeing this show. Your time (and precious dollars in this economy) are well-spent by catching this very memorable and emotional show. Go see "Ragtime."

When I stepped into the Neal Simon Theater I didn't realize how I would be swept away and brought back to a story which still is very telling today.
One may think the set is very simplified, yet I believe that it then allowed these stories to literally jump off stage and grabbed on to your heart.
Everyone can connect with someone in the story. Don’t just go see it—GO ENJOY IT!!

We were not able to go I gave our tickets to a couple in there 60's They enjoyed it very much ,the group did a excellant job and would liked to go again. They sat in the loge and really enjoyed the view and they had a added plus with the organ Thanks so much for bringing and using these programs from our area and letting us enjoy them at a reasonable price

I'm so glad we saw Ragtime at Akron Civic Theater! It was a wonderful showcase for the amazing talent that is so abundant in the Akron area! The voices were excellent and the acting was so much better than we ever expected. This show is a great venue for emerging talent. Costumes were as good as any on Broadway! Thanks so much to the cast, the crew, and to all of the sponsors for making this possible! Looking forward to the next All-City musical.

Excellent Production well produced and performed. Some small technical difficulties prevented it from perfection. Intimate feeling venue. Had a great time.

The music and performances were delightfully great. Those young 'uns got talent. The only drawback was that the sound mix did not allow one to always hear (and certainly not understand) the words of the music. Orchestra was too loud at times and the female voices were too shrill - not that they were singing shrill - it was the "mix" or whatever.

I searched for theatre tickets on-line and expected to see a regular theatre presentation and it ended up being a student presentation. We arrived and the seating was minimal, meant for family and friends of the students and the two seats we took left no seating for some of the family members of the cast. The students acted well but this was definately not a presentation that should have been advertised and had tickets sold to non-family and friends on-line.

Studio BE is doing a fantastic job training these middle & high school kids in song, dance and performance. They are truly a studio to keep an eye on in the future! Ragtime was performed with a live orchestra, fantastic period costumes, and wonderful acting, singing and dancing by these dedicated young people. Can't wait for the next production.

my wife and i purchased tickets to Ragtime expecting to watch a musical performed by professionals. What we were given was a cast of "young, extremely talented, grade and high school performers. For young performers still new to the professional stage, their dedication to the arts is commendable. Bottom line, would i recommend this event to a friend? "Yes" if you want to experience new talent blossoming. "No" if you expect a professional show. These young talented actors are just beginning to hone their skills. Given time and experience i have no doubt they will be succesful in their field. If you do go, watch these young actors with eyes that imagine their future in theatre and arts.

Upon reading the synopsis on Ragtime, I was reluctant to see it, thinking it would be boring. I took my 86 yr. old mother to see it as a belated Mothers' Day present. Wow! The songs were absolutely entertaining, the storyline kept me on the edge of my seat (I cried twice), and the cast was amazing. I especially adored the Tateh character and his little girl, which reminded me of my great grandmother and her family coming to America and their experiences. Although we share the same last name, Mark David Kaplan and I are not related...he was a superb actor. He emoted with all his strength. I would sure like to see any of his upcoming plays...and even travel far if needed...just to see him perform. Kudos to the writers, musicians, and the entire cast of this production.

This is one of the best shows I have every seen at Drury Lane..everything the performers, the direction, the costumes the singing, the orchestra was just wonderful. I thought this was better than any broadway production of the show that I have seen and I've been going to NY for years. Bravo to Drury Lane for featuring so many minority actors. Please keep up the incredible work and the high quality.

I thought Ragtime was excellent! We had the dinner and play tickets for the first time. The dinner was outstanding and a great value. The play was amazing.
It wasnt just a musical but a musical with a good story behind it. A little bit of history and great actors and singers. I felt it was as good or better than any musical I have seen in downtown Chicago.

By far the best musical production I have seen at Drury Lane. It made me laugh and cry. The voices were outstanding. I believe Ragtime is a highly underrated musical. The songs take you on an emotional roller coaster. The sets were perfect for the stage and the Model T was awesome. If you missed this one, you missed a great performance.
