I was at the dress rehearsal, the friday night concert and the sunday matinee concert as well.
The performers were absolutely wonderful, both singers and players. The denver audience was more partial to the Beethoven 9th symphony, as it was by far the most familiar. But the John Adams composition, ON THE TRANSFORMATION OF SOULS, (composed to honor those who died in the 9/11 attack on the world trade center), was striking, deeply moving, modernistic in it's use of dissonance, but perfect in striking the audience in the heart with its message of sorrow, pain and horror, but with many solemn moments of quiet and thoughtfullness. I strongly recommend that you purchase the cd that's available of the first performance with the n.y. philharmonic. These performers outdid the N.Y. forces in my estimation. Both pieces were electrifying to the nearly sold out house on all 3 occasions.
