This was a great outdoor concert. It rained, but it was still awesome. Alice in Chains was great. Memphis is a fun city to be in. Everything was just a lot of fun.

BSMF is an awesome festival for the price! Compared to similar sized festivals with wry similar artists-like Forecastle-this one takes the cake with many genres and acts. Be sure to bring rain boots!

Apparently Beale Street Festival gets rained on every year, and this was no exception. That creates tons of mud, so you must devise various strategies on what to see and when if you've forgotten your rain boots. (You definitely need boots if you want to see them all.) We loved Mavis Staples, the Wallflowers, Patti Smith, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Vintage Trouble, Gov't Mule, and Heritage Blues Orchestra, among others. Definitely check out new bands and local bands, as you may find a great new artist to follow.

The entertainment arrangement dominated! Very energized and well scheduled lineup. Only because of the rain and mud (every day) did I rate this event a 4 star. Although, I could never imagine this event being trapped indoors. Overall, the Beale St Music Festival rocked!!

I really enjoyed my time in Memphis, which included three days at the Beale Street Music Festival. Alice in Chains was AMAZING despite the cold temps and the muddy field. If you plan to attend this event in the future, you would be wise to wear a pair of rain boots & raincoat as I was told it rains just about every year.

We came from Columbus Ohio and would drive further next time if need be. The event was well run, great music, and decent food. Spent a good bit of time at the Blues tent, well done. Some great young talent that we had yet to see and look forward to seeing them again.

Memphis in May this year was cold, wet, and miserable but it was so worth it. Three Days Grace, Papa Roach. Bassnector, Porter Robertson, and Vintage Trouble rocked it. Have been going for 3 years now and I'm going to continue going rain or shine (except next time I'm packing my rain boots.)

The low, low price ($75) combined with the amazing 2013 line up sold me on this festival. I have been to many festivals (Bonnaroo, Forecastle, Virgin Fest etc.) but this was my first time to Beale St. The music was fantastic. I was impressed by every artist I saw. There was a nice variety of food & vendors. But I was surprised by the lack of enthusiasm in the crowd. The bands should not have to ask repeatedly for the crowd to sing, cheer, dance & just have fun. The weather was bad. It rained all 3 days & there is no shelter from the rain. The temperature never got above 55. There was always a cold wind coming off the river. Halfway through the first day the entire park was nothing but MUD! By the 2nd day it was a mud swamp that only those with knee high rubber boots could walk through without loosing their shoes in the mud. THERE IS NO ESCAPING THE MUD! I talked to several people who have gone to this festival multiple times and they all told me the same thing... It's always muddy! So this festival is not for the novice or the squeamish. This festival is for hardcore, diehard fans that will brave any conditions. That being said it is a great price for a 3 day festival with top notch artists.

It's been 5 years since I went to BSMF, so I wanted to give it another shot. Not exactly the best weekend for favorable weather or for the venue being outside. You would think the BSMF planners would have some sort of back-up plan. What about a few more picnic tables to sit at so you don't have to stand in all the mud for hours on end? Saw The Wallflowers, half of the Deftones, and had to leave before Alice in Chains. The Black Keys was my highlight-they were awesome! Sunday, saw Three Days Grace, Flaming Lips, and Smashing Pumpkins--of course, the trolley schedule wasn't inline with the latest show and had to miss the last 30-40 minutes of Pumpkins to catch the last trolley, which really sucked.

On an average day, the Flaming Lips were great! The sound was good, and the show was incredible. The mud was ever-present as usual, and there was less rain than other days... Other bands did not fare as well. Awolnation didn't play, which was no great loss, and Gary Clark Jr. had the worst sound I have ever experienced in over 10 years of Memphis in May. Too bad, because he is a great player.

Location:A country girl looking for some city flavors.

My husband n I attended Sunday, the last day of the event. It was AWESOME!! The bands were great, especially Three Days Grace. I wish the Smashing Pumpkins would have had a better show, but all n all a great show.
A few recommendations,
1. Wear calf high rubber boots. We were sneakers which got covered in mud. Memphis locals call this event "Mudfest" because it rains every year.
2. The food within the festival was "ok", n I would only use for snacking. It's cheaper to eat before n after the shows. This festival is within walking distance to Beale street n thier open until 3 am so use your $ for alcohol not food.
3. Get a hotel room within walking distance. There are many to choose from that are affordable.
4. Don't worry about seating because it doesn't exist. Everyone stands around like at an outside concert.
We will be attending again in the future. Only reason for 4 n not 5 stars was because of the over priced food within the festival. The music was awesome!!

I know there is not much that they could have done about it, but the rain, four-inch thick mud and uncomfortable temperatures really ruined the weekend for me. We really, really tried to make the best of it though. Now with that said, things they could have helped...30-minute waits for the bathroom while you're missing bands, only offering bud and bud light, and then having a shortage of regular bud. Not to mention to few stands that resulted in more long waits while you miss the band. You also had to show your ID every time you bought a drink, rather than showing it once and getting a wrist band signaling you're over 21 that you keep on for the whole weekend. There were also no projection screens....so if you were incapable of huddling in the pushy, crowded front, you pretty much couldn't catch the show...you could only hear the songs muffled by the distance and see the lights. Don't even think about being able to see anything if you're close too, because if you're short, it's a lost cause. There is hardly any elevation to the stage or gradient to the ground. I was not too far from the stage for one band and still watched the whole show through the necks of the people in front of me. It's like taking an actual music festival and putting it in a vice and squeezing it into too small a space while offering the bare minimum of comfort for attendees. Stayed two shows Friday, one and a half Saturday and we didn't even return for the third day. It was miserable and I wouldn't pay again for that amount of discomfort....I don't care if Freddy Mercury came back from his grave to do a one-time gig in Memphis.
