I've seen TAPFS about 8 times now and this was the first time I've ever been a little disappointed. Maybe because I'm an old time Floyd fan, I much prefer their earlier material up through and including The Wall. While TAPFS did an admirable job with songs from The Division Bell and Momentary Lapse of Reason, they felt like filler, and when you have a catalogue as rich as Floyds, there is no reason to waste time on filler. Would you really rather see them do Take It Back or What Do You Want From Me, over Mother or Welcome To The Machine? You could even see it in the way the audience reacted. While everyone applauded this "newer" material, when TAPFS played the classics, the audience went crazy. I remember when I saw TAPFS for the first time, I was initially a little embarassed to be there. A Pink Floyd Tribute Band? Really? But by the second song I was totally sucked in, standing on my feet and cheering for more. This show was different, and for me, it didn't really take off until about the 4th or 5 song. The light show was great, the band was great as always, and the vocalists were all good, I just wasn't crazy about all of the song choices.
A couple of comments on the lead vocalists. Alex McNamara did an excellent job vocally, probably the strongest of the male leads, but his image bugged me. He has a great look, but it's too GQ. The image just doesn't mesh with the music. Colin Wilson has a great voice and sounded wonderful on the quieter tunes, but didn't have the necessary power for some of the more aggresive material. Maybe just an off night for Colin, because I don't recall him having issues in previous shows.
So all in all, a great show, just felt there was a lost opportunity based upon some song choices that lost momenturm.
