This was the first show I had been to where I knew the opening bands. All three were amazing and showcased new work and old stand-bys. Judging by the friends who joined me that night, BTBAM can be difficult to be introduced to for new listeners, but I feel they put on a solid performance.
Coheed is a blast to experience. Their music is core rock and not influenced by other modern bands. If anything, they're creating a new sub-genre. Claudio is a crowd favorite and definitely brings his "A" game every performance. The show revolved around the latest album, Descension, but you won't really miss anything by not knowing the story. The storyline interludes allowed us to catch our breath before being fascinated by yet another song.
My usual gripe though - I love loud live music but these shows are excessively and dangerously loud and this is not taken seriously enough. I'm in my 30's and I'm probably in the second generation of rock band audiences who won't know the damage done for another 20 years or so. If the venues don't bring it down a notch, get yourself some tuned earplugs. You'll thank yourself later!
Radio City Music Hall is a great venue - very comfortable and easy to get around. Friendly ushers, decent facilities. The acoustics aren't made for live rock shows though - the first mezzanine was definitely a bass trap, which muddy the sound.
An overall enjoyable night. I look forward to my next Coheed show and Radio City visit.
