We purchase our tickets every year as soon as possible. It is a performance that creates joy, excitement and lots of foot tapping. The singers have wonderful voices and they themselves express joy in the moment of what is putting before us, the audience.

Great fun version of the Messiah! The pianist was amazing!! One of the best jazz pianist I've ever heard! Also the tenor was great!

This was the best yet. The soloist were great and the music was the best. The choir performed as though they have been together for years not just months. Beside that the members of the choir are volunteer. This year they added 2 video presentations. One at the beginning highlighting what is done to prepare for such an event. The other video was displayed throughout the presentation. It highlighted each soloist and the choir.

Great performance...music, vocals & instrumental...especially the jazz players...sax, piano, bass...and the tenor. Inspiring & upbeat. Just great fun! Can't wait to see it again next year.

The performance was Amazing, Unforgettable and Electricfying!! This was my second year witnessing the awesome voices of the 3 lead vocals and the choir. I took my mom and daughter for their first time and they loved it. Every instrument was heard, felt and provided support for each song in an amazing array of color.

This amazing performance deserves a week in Chicago, not just two performances. The soloists, and especially the pianist and the tenor, were exceptional. And this version of the Messiah is not to be missed.

"Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah" is amazing! Exuberant, gorgeous, inspiring, and uplifting. A fitting tribute to the life and message of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Everything you read about this show is understatement. We have never seen or heard such a cavalcade of talent... From the arrangers of this score, world class soloist vocals (the three of them have both world-class operatic voices and gospel-jazz stylism), AMAZING small jazz combo (with the greates unknown jazz pianist in Alvin Waddels you will EVER hear), on top of a Duke Ellington style and quality big band, ON TOP OF a full string orchestra, and a huge, enthusiastic, and talented gospel-classical choir... OMG! Is that enough to make you go next year and hear this exciting, beautiful, thrilling show??

It was a wonderful, energetic performance that I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys live music. The solo performances were my favorite because they highlighted the amazing talent that came together to create the show. The pianist, "twinkle toes" set the tone for each act and he really knew how to work the crowd. Everyone on stage seemed to be a master of their craft. I left the show uplifted and ready to take on the year!

I attended the performance with my sisters and sister-in-law; our first time ever. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and definitely plan to attend again next year.

I can't believe how distracting the video screens. There was no need for three screens displaying the same thing. They were too bright and gaudy. And the quality and over-saturated color was the worst I've seen publicly displayed in 20 years.
Otherwise, GREAT program, GREAT musicians. Loved it!

Brilliant fusion of classical/jazz/gospel music, riffing on Handel's famous "Messiah", with fine work by both soloists and chorus. I love concerts where you can tell the performers are having as much fun as the audience.
The only negatives were that the orchestra, particularly in the first half, was far too loud, and occasionally overpowered the singers. Also, this year a "video enhancement" was added that was, rather, a distraction. The images were at times so bright that I had to cover my eyes, and the quality of the images was very bad. Get rid of that, and I'd give this five stars.

This was my first experience with this performance. Mr. Dixon saves this production. If not for him I would have probably left during the first intermission. This production would probably fair much better if the female soloists were stronger. I could actually recommend a local talent that would probably assist this production in selling more tickets.

I generally hold a block of seats for Too Hot to Handle Jazz Gospel Messiah. This year I also took advantage of cyber Monday and purchased outside of the block. Every single person that attended the performance was thrilled, excited, loved it, and OMG so happy they attended. Kudos to the Auditorium theatre for 8 years of an awesome production!!! Awaiting date for next years performance!!
