As Toad winded through all of their familiar songs, all I wanted to do was nudge the rest of the city to find out why they weren't there to see it. Maybe I will just consider myself one of the lucky ones...
To be fair, I have been a fan of Toad the Wet Sprocket for years. Toad has persisted throughout waves of changes in the music industry. They aren't an up-and-coming band anymore but the entertainment experience really shines through. I enjoyed the fact that they make no appologies. If you happened to stumble in for this show all you got to see was a band who gets up on the stage, play for two hours, entertain you, and leave you wanting more.

Toad the Wet Sprocket pleased its St. Louis fans with a strong 90-minute set Tuesday evening at the Pagent. They maintained an upbeat tempo throughout the set and three-song encore, playing their radio hits as well as other fan favorites. Among my favorites were "Woodburning" and "Crazy Life," although all of the pieces held up well. Although it seems that we will not hear any new studio work from the group, the energy and quality of their live performance does wonders.

I've seen Toad numerous times over the year and have always been thrilled by their shows. Not this time. The band lacked energy, the best guitar solos were not played by Todd Nichols but rather a band add-on who was sufficient but let's face it I was there to see Toad, not a charity case. He also took on some of the Glen Phillips solos, i.e. mdonlin solos and didn't play them on a mandolin but rather a miniturized guitar....whatever. The set was also uneven.
I love the boys from Santa Barbara, but if they are going to reunite and hit the road, why not do it right?

Toad the Wet Sprocket brought back the pop hits you almost forgot about from the 90's. Listening to the harmonization and structure to every riff blew me away! They don't come through often but I guarantee I will go again.

I hadn't seen Toad since the early 1990s. They played about 1 1/2 hour set and the vocals were fantastic. Seeing them at the Pageant with only about 1,000 people was a great venue. I missed them last time they were in St. Louis for the VIP Fair a few years ago and really glad I caught them this time around.

Toad was awesome... I would have liked for the Pageant to have better seating (i.e. the balcony open with assigned seating... I hate general admission), but the band made up for it. I've wanted to see them forever and am glad I finally had the chance. They did a great live show!

Excellent show, they still have the great vocals and driving guitar riffs that made them so good. Only negative is they could have played longer. A perfect show would have included a piano and some of the slower tunes from Fear.

Toad and the band were belting out awesome invididual sounds, but the base was 2x overdriven and the overall volume did not work well at the Pagent. It was awesome at Mississippi nights a few years back when everyone braved the snowstorm. I got the same performance from Glen and the guys, but the mixers blew the overall expereince. Having new Toadies with me, I had pre-bragged to the max and ate crow for it.

The Toad show was great. It is so nice to see a band in concert that is not overly produced. This five man group was in perfect sync for the entire show. The sound was incredible.
My only concern was that this was a General Admission show. The Pageant has an upper balcony with seating BUT that was closed off for this show. I would have gladly paid the extra $$ to have a seat in the balcony. And, honestly, Toad has enough loyal fans in St. Louis to sell out the Pageant. Doors opened at 7 for the 8pm show. Very little seating available, ended up standing for the entire show.

Although their hey-day was in the Nineties, a reunited Toad the Wet Sprocket brought together a pretty substantial crowd here at this great venue, the Pageant. The band, it seemed, was a little shocked at the reception they received continually all night. Classics like "All I Want" and "Walk on the Ocean" were full theater sing-alongs. Band sounded crisp... All I would have liked was for the concert to go longer and seen a couple more songs. But all in all, very worth it to see one of my all time favorite bands together again.

Played all the songs you could hope for. I've heard them live before and this didn't feel like they were laying it all out there but expect bands can't do that for every stop on a tour. Good sized crowd. Really wish Glen Phillips would have cranked it up a bit more though. Was hoping they would do an acoustic/"unplugged" type song but no such luck.

Very intimate setting at the Park West. It was so great to see them in concert, again. I've seen them over a dozen times over the past 19 years and they have yet to disappoint. I am, admittedly, a big, big fan of Toad and still cannot understand why they did not "make it big". The best part of the show was hearing couple of old tunes from their first album and one of my favorites "Brother". I can't wait til they come back to Chicago, again!
