We've been attending Westminster Dog Show since 2004 and have enjoyed it immensely. Even though there were a lot of glitches to be ironed out by the WKC, we still enjoy it and will probably continue to attend. I just hope these things can be addressed and corrected before next year's event takes place.
1) We were never informed that the day's activities were moved to Piers 92 and 94! A friend of ours casually mentioned the move, and we checked into it via Google. Imagine our surprise to learn the night before we were leaving for NY that we would be going to the wrong place!
2) In previous years, the benching area and gift tables were all included in the price. We were able to check our suitcases (we've been staying overnight), and stay the whole day and night in one venue. This was convenient because we met our friends for dinner and didn't have to drag suitcases with us. We took a complimentary shuttle from the pier to MSG, but then couldn't get in for approximately two hours. We had a lot in our suitcases, and they were heavy. Unfortunately, we had to take the suitcases with us to meet our friends at a very crowded restaurant. We asked if we could just check our suitcases at the Garden, but they said no! Then when we returned, we had to open up the suitcases when we entered MSG. For this privilege, we were charged an extra $25 per person (which we didn't know about ahead of time).
3) When we watched the competition during the day, we were able to go into our seats. There were very few seats during competitions, or anywhere for that matter. One had to either stand most of the day, or opt for a space on the floor! Considering Westminster Dog Show as the premier dog event in the nation, sitting on the floor was tacky and unprofessional!
4) On a positive note, the benching area was certainly larger and better for all concerned, including the animals. The free shuttle to MSG was a welcome perk as well.
Since we live far and take a bus into New York, it is not feasible or worthwhile for us to just attend the show at night. I, personally, think arrangements were very disorganized and, as I previously said, glitches have to be worked out in order to make this move a success. We love the dog show and would like to continue attending, but it was very difficult the way it was handled. I hope something will change for the dog show next year . . . for the better!
