There is nothing quite like going to a minor league game. The players are always engaged in the action, everyone tries harder because you never know when a major league scout is watching, and the team staff members do their best to provide entertainment and great service. Not to mention that you can often see major league players in a more intimate venue as they rehab. You also can't beat the price as the tickets are always half of what you'd pay at a major league park.
Speaking of intimate, this was my first occasion to go to the park after the remodel as I spend a lot of time traveling for business. I attended many games previous to the remodel and was excited to see the new changes now that the renovation was complete. I was extremely disappointed instead. The seats on the front row, just behind the dugouts, used to be the best seats in the house. Now they're horrible. Due to major league standards, the dugout was raised, but no one raised the first row of seats. Now, instead of having a clear view of the game, you can't even see the baselines unless you're extremely tall or crane your body and neck uncomfortably. As these are season tickets, they are much more expensive than the other seats in the stadium, yet they have the worst views. You see far more of the game by sitting in the 2nd tier of seats. Also, the first row of seats on the 2nd tier are placed so close to the wire "fencing" that anyone taller than 5'4 can't sit there without having your knees imprinted with score marks from the fence. I''m 5'8 and it was very uncomfortable. I can't imagine how bad it would be for someone who was taller. There are also no cup holders for that row, either, so your drink has to sit on the concrete floor under your seat because there's also no foot room due to the close proximity of the fence to the first row. You should also not have any issues with having your personal space being encroached. The seats are so close that when the person sitting next to me and I turned toward each other, we were nearly nose to nose. I weigh 180 pounds and the seats are tight enough that I barely fit into them. Had I weighed my previous 240 pounds, I'd have never fit.
Lastly, I do not ever remember getting such horrible quality food before in the past at the games in this park. The hot dogs were off color because they looked as if they had been sitting for a while (and we purchased our food in the 2nd inning), the bun was damp and stuck to the dog, the nacho cheese was bland and tasted as if it came from a convenience store, and it was all higher than what I would have expected for the quality and venue. The only good points about the concessions was the snack type foods (dipping dots, kettle corn, pretzels) and the chips that came with the nachos. Those were above excellent in quality and taste.
So yes, I would recommend going to the game, just don't plan on buying the hotdogs and take care that where you sit will accommodate your height. Otherwise, you're in for a long and uncomfortable event. I know I'll be a lot more choosy from now on.
