Saw about Apollo on Swedish TV. Went to NY. Happened to be Amatuer Night. What a show. We had a really good night. Could have lasted for an hour more.

Very kitchy. The warm up lasted too long. The hosts spoke to much. And the acts didn't live up to the hype.

Took the family as a surprise on the last night of our stay in NY - what a fantastic way to finish a memorable holiday!

The warmup was great! The stage guys know their job (getting people pumped) and do it well. The idea is simple enough: people with talents (vocal-musical, vocal-spoken word/comedy, instrument-musical) show off their talent and the audience either boo-s you off stage or votes which is best. The audience, being seated in the heart of Harlem, is definitely biased towards black artists (started booing a white girl on her first note!). They loved a black guy that had no regular talent, but chose a song he knew would cater towards the hip hop-living audience.

It was a great show, and it was awesome to see so much talent. My only warning is for sensitive people to be careful. There is a deal of booing involved.
