This was the 6th or 7th time I've seen Umphrey's McGee. After the last time, I thought maybe I was starting to outgrow them, or they me. I have always been a big fan of their songs as well as their jams. But, sometimes the jams seem forced and lack the true spontaneity that I have most enjoyed in their music.
This was particularly true in the first set - where I thought one or two of their "explorations" didn't go anywhere at all - and that is the downside of music like this. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
Still love the band - incredible musicians and I hope they stay at it.
The lights were awesome and keep getting better! They create a visual experience just as much as a sound one.
And - how about the Mike Dillon Band that opened. Wow - was this a pleasant surprise. Normally you want the opening act to get over and on to Umphreys. The Dillon band was awesome - partly due to the great vibraphone work - and partly because of the incredible (and beautiful) trombone player who had an awesome way she danced to the music. Didn't enjoy Mike's raps as much - but still a great opener.
