Behind the Mask showcased not only the amazing abilities of our own Grand Rapids Symphony, under the more-than-capable direction of David Lockington, but the Broadway talents of Nat Chandler, Teri Hanson, and Rosena Hill as well. We were expecting a nice evening's entertainment, but this concert went way above our hopes and expectations. This was truly a superb production, and for only $18/ticket, an amazing value. Our group of 8 decided we should make this an annual NY Eve event!

Imagine 250 musicians onstage including a huge chorus performing the Mass - it was like attending a Mass with Ludig van Beethoven as the music director! The complexity and virtuosity I witnessed left me nearly speechless. As a Catholic I was especially moved by the beauty and the meaning behind the music ... and I truly appreciated the Latin words being translated to English on the projection screens for the audience to read and understand.
It's no wonder Beethoven considered this his greatest work.

The choir, the orchestra, and the soloists in this performance all did a commenable job. I do think that the orchestra, excellent though it was, was too loud and tended to drown out the choir. The cathedral of St. Andrew is usually thought to be a wonderful acoustical venue, but to my hearing the diction of the choir was somewhat muffled. Two of the soloists were outstanding: the bass-baritone who sang Jesus' recitatives, and especially the tenor who sung the role of the evangelist and presented two arias. The soprano was so-so, and the countertenor was rather disappointing. Neither of them projected very well. Overall, though, this was a concert worth attending.

My children (ages 6 and 8) were entertained the entire time. It was very family friendly, clever, and enjoyable.

This show was great! The Symphony was great, but paired with the Cirque Mechanics, it was non stop entertaining. Amazing, cool and funny!

My wife and I went to see the 8 PM show at DeVos Performance Hall on April 20th and we both agreed that the show is one that will always be remembered as entertaining, breath-taking and enjoyable. The matching of the music to the Cirque performers was superb and we would go see it again in a minute.

It was exciting to watch a premiere and realize that these amazing people can only get better! The Grand Rapids Symphony's flawless playing enhanced the experience of watching these incredibly talented and hard working performers make the near impossible look effortless. Their riveting performances made the evening go by in a flash. I especially like the trapeze performers. I only wish the lighting had been brighter so we could better see each subtle, graceful movement.

Amazing show but get higher seats to see more musicians. We were too close. It's the whole movie so about 4 hrs w intermission.
