We were informed, prior to our arrival, that Whitesnake had to cancel due to David Coverdale's illness so we were a little disappointed but were, never the less, thoroughly pumped up for Judas Priest. We suffered through the warm up band, Pop Evil, and felt that they did not match the caliber required to be a warm up band for The Priest but the set was short and we were grateful. We were seated about 20 yards from the stage.
A half dozen songs blarred out of the sound system during intermission and then came Black Sabbath's War Pigs. Everyone in the audience was singing the words when the music abruptly stopped followed by the beginning chords of Rapid Fire. The crowd, already on their feet, cheered wildly as the curtain quickly rose and The Priest ripped into the first song off the British Steel LP. The band tore through the whole LP, from start to finish, playing such rare selections as; You Don't Have to be Old to be Wise, The Rage, and Steeler while never missing a word or a note. The Priest played off of the crowd's excitement and emotion with Rob Halford hitting some serious high notes and Glenn Tipton and KK Downing tearing through guitar solo after guitar solo.
Upon completing the British Steel LP, the band played the title track off of their newly released LP Nostradamus, and fan favorites; Diamonds and Rust and Victim of Changes. For the encore, Rob rode out onto the stage on his patented Harley and the band surprised all by playing Freewheel Burning off the Defenders of the Faith LP and closing out with a powerful version of You've got Another Thing Coming off the Screaming for Vengeance LP.
Overall it was an amazing show. The band is certainly on top of their game and the crowd rewarded them for it. A late evening shower did not deter anyone and the Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre was packed from start to finish. I would recommend to all that you see this show as history is being made each time the band performs it. You will never see anything like it again.
