"Johnny Legs" seldom fails to make an audience laugh in unison but in his Ghetto Klown show, there is a moment where a sold out auditorium was completely silent for a couple of beats as Leguizamo pulled everyone so far into his story that we were all there...by a streetlamp, in an alley, feeling the emotions of the protagonist and his invisible father. This poignant moment contrasts marvelously well with the nearly non-stop comedy that John pulls from his everyday life - sweet, bittersweet, and even painful. The artist writes or paints or sculpts for himself - that is my belief - so, for an artist to then share that work and have others perceive the work in an emotional manner - that is the measure of greatness, not only of the work itself, but moreso, of the artist. Well done. Kudos. Go see this show. The videos are great but do not do justice to the live experience.
