Ok, I entered Wembley with good expectations, and came out having experienced one of the best experiences I've ever had. White Lies were a great warm-up, Girls Aloud were... well... Girls Aloud, and JZ opened my mind to a whole new genre of music.
By 9:00, my head was a giant buzz of coca-cola and nachos, and I was seriously pumped for some music. A large crowd of people filed in about at about 7:55, which surprised me, considering they'd payed for 7 hours of entertainment. Died-hard fans, you gotta love 'em.
When Coldplay entered after some sporty fog-horn jingle, the place just went wild! Everyone was on their feet and screaming, and Chris wasted no time in making a start. I think I might've passed out halfway through the first song (Life in Technicolor), but the atmosphere was so hyped, I really can't remember. Though, you can't blame me, the strobe lighting was enough to turn anyone into some rave-crazed zombie ;)
After a few songs, it all calmed down a bit. More people were sitting , and there was some swaying. Next thing you know, Chris is leading some walk-around to a smaller stage, smack-bang in the middle of the crowd. There was a mini-acoustic set to follow, including tribute to MJ, with a cover of Billie Jean. Then, Coldplay seemed to walk back up to the stage, and it all becomes a giant, fantastical blur.
As the first chords of Viva la Vida started to play, it was like somebody turned a switch in the mind of the audience, and they were on their feet again, dancing like no one was watching, and I don't think anyone was, they all seemed to be chanting "Woo-oo-oooo-oo-oo-oh!" at the top of their lungs, which I still can't get out of my head this morning.
After a few more songs, including Strawberry Swing, Fix You and Lovers in Japan (BIG personal favourites) they went off again, but re-appeared for a final encore. By now, the audience had been covered with balloons, rained on, covered in many small paper butterflies and were nearly blinded by the many amazing stage background and lighting effects.
It wasn't over yet though, as Coldplay came back on for 2 last songs. The first was The Scientist, which sent everyone into a magical swaying trance. The last song was, again, Life in Technicolor, but with lyrics. Nobody cared about anything anymore, it was like there was some subconscious understanding between everyone, like they'd all just magically become best friends in the space of 2 hours. Finally, Coldplay left the stage to what seemed like the loudest sound imaginable. Everyone was pumped, and nobody really wanted to leave.
As everyone filed out, "Woo-oo-oooo-oo-oo-oh!" seemed to fill the surrounding streets. It was an experience that I'll never forget. Like my title says, this was one of the best nights of my life, of all time, because in my opinion nobody can put life into music like the legend that is, Coldplay.
Also, I got a really nifty shirt and a free album ;)
