Part one of the program provides an exposition of two of Verdi's short compositions that bookend a section from Wagner's Götterdämmerung. These are capably performed by the full NC Symphony, and conduced with verve and emotion by master conductor William Henry Curry. The music is moving and captivating, with major flourishes provided by the brass section.
After intermission, the audience is treated to an excellent performance of the four movement "Pathetique" symphony of Tchiakovsky. This is where the main course of the evening is provided to the audience, having had their auditory taste buds excited by the earlier part one. Once again, the brass section shines, but is admirably and excellently accompanied by the string section that performs with verve and tremendous energy, especially in the third movement.
The audience was clearly impressed, granting the maestro and the symphony orchestra a standing ovation upon conclusion of the program.
