OMG, the hubby and I had a wonderful time Friday nite!!!! Got there early to visit the barns and pet all the gorgeous horses and take some pics. The owners there were very friendly and answered our questions and a few even posed with their horses.
Then we toured the sellers area and saw all the variety of neat western wear, the lovely prints and paintings and photos, listened to one of the great bands playing on the stage. Finally got to our seats just before the rodeo started and great center row seats they were, we could see all the action and what a variety of action to be seen! The announcer was clear and kept us up with all the details of what was happening next.
(Sorry for the bull rider who had to be carried off and we wondered what his condition is?)

All in all, it an awesome nite and yep we'll be back as always to see all the sights and sounds of a Great event!!!!!!!

The rodeo is a FRACTION was what it once was- the daytime events are practically non-existent, and the schedule is not accurate. We hunted around in search of the outdoor arena (god forbid there be signs or event staff to tell you where to go), and finally found it at 2:30, in time to watch the 3pm color guard. Upon seating, it was announced that the final color guard team (of a total 4) had just finished, despite the fact that they were scheduled to begin at 3:00pm. Because the remaining days events had already happened (they were "ahead of schedule"), and there was a 4.5 hour wait to the rodeo, we decided we'd seen enough (or, nothing at all!), and left early. My only regret: Having paid for it ahead of time. Luckily I didn't pay for parking, since the guy who was assigned the parking passes was "out on break" from 2:00-4:00.

this was my first time going to a rodeo. I had a amazing time. I took my 2yr old son and he loved it. He loved all the animals. Had a great time cant wait for next year.

Loved going to the rodeo at the Cow Palace this year. I think it was the best yet. There were so many venders with cool cowboy stuff and the cowboys are so good looking.

Even better than last weekend. They did have the scores up on the new 4 sided tv, and the commentating was great, and the show moved along quickly - they were organized. So love to see the love of the sport and animals, also very patriotic which is hard to find anymore in the Bay Area. Good job!

The rodeo was a lot of fun to go to. the one thing i thought was a little upsetting was that the music wasnt country music. other than that though it was great!!

This event is so fun. It's my second year to attend. I love the horses, and the smell of the horses! So good for a city girl. People have such different lives! It was scarey to see the cowboys on the bulls! Fun to see the cowboys ride so fast! Love it. And love that they do a tribute to the flag and the people in service, Marines, Air Force, Army, etc. It moves fast and you can't believe you're there for 3 hours! Loved the show of the Clydesdale horses.Really great.

I would have to say as far as entertainment value, last year was better, unfortunately. I was a little disappointed. Specifically, the rodeo clown was lacking and the shows were just okay. It almost seemed as though not a lot of thought went into the in-between portions of the night as they should have. (The competitions themselves are excluded from any of the above comments.)

Also, I have to comment, the BBQ food was really good but the portions were way off. We ate at the beginning of the night so you have the timing. I am a little girl and to say I was still hungry after finishing everything on my plate is saying a lot.

I took my mother and my daughter to the rodeo. This is my second time coming and I can not see myself committing to that expense again next year. I am really sad about that too.

Great rodeo, better the last night than ever..I would have rated it a five but the MC/announcer and clown were EXTREMELY annoying and talked and talked often missing the event taking place. The often talked over the rider and the results. They were too busy telling cheesy jokes and stupid stories. Often an event would take place, they failed to say who the rider was or his score..they very much distracted from the rodeo events..

They did a great job with the presentation and kept the show going throughout. We attended a Friday and Saturday night and the whole family enjoyed the events and the market place. The Grand National Rodeo is a great thing for California. It is a part of who we are, our heritage. The contestants did great and the animals were awesome!

Bull riding is the most dangerous sport. I enjoy watching those crazy enough to risk their lives. Nothing else like it.

I brought my husband to the Grand National Rodeo and it was fun but not as exciting as we expected. I think a large part of the reason is because even though they had a large 4-sided scoreboard/screen over the event space, they didn't put the riders' names, scores, or times up there. In fact, there was no visible clock to see how long people stayed on their broncs or how long it took to rope the cattle! Also, the sound system was so bad it was very hard to hear even half of what the announcer said. I heard a bunch of people saying they couldn't hear or understand him either. So with those things, the excitement level in the crowd was pretty subdued.
We paid in advance (on Ticketmaster) for our $20 per person BBQ dinner thinking you had to pre-order. You didn't. We could have saved the $1.50 per ticket Ticketmaster surcharge and bought food there. Although, for $20 the meal was pretty sad. It was an OK (but large) slice of beef, generic caesar salad, gross potato salad, Costco roll (not even a buttermilk biscuit!), and beans with weenies. No drink included. Way overpriced for a subpar BBQ.
On the positive, it's fun to watch the competition and the arena was much smaller than I expected so any seat would be a good one- you don't have to pay top dollar to get a good view. After reading another review for the event online I learned that the best seats were somewhere to the side and just in front of the shoots. We saw everything clearly and closely from section 27.

lots of great riding and competition. this year they added a 4 sided large screen tv hanging from the ceiling which added alot because no matter where you are sitting sometimes the bulls buck from right outside the gate and its hard to see. organized vendors, bar, all good.
going next week too!

I have been going to the rodeo with my children for over 20 years. However, I haven't attended lately as my children are gorwn. This year I took my grandson. They have eliminated all of the English classes, jumping, dressage, hackney ponies and all of the Arabian classes. There is no parade of all of the participants to open the show.
Basically, it is a bare bones rodeo and I noticed that the attendance was down for a Saturday night. Also, it used to run for 2 weeks with events every night. Now it is down to 2 weekends nights. I was very disappointed.

This is an institution and should be preserved in its previous format.

I've never been to a rodeo before and this one was def the full experience. Recommend the BBQ dinner tickets, not amazing food but a really fun atmosphere that gets you into the spirit of things. Also recommend getting good seats - you can be really close to the action and it's a crazy experience. The "marketplace" shopping was interesting but largely overpriced chotchkie's, very little worth practically purchasing.

The event was just OK, not great by any means. The place was less then 1/2 full on a Saturday Night.. there should have been a time clock so the audience could see the time of the riders in all events.

A group of us got together to go and we ha such a great time. There were many nice renovations were so awesome and noticeable from last year. All I could of wished for is more entertainment., time went by soooo fast.
