My first Florentine Opera production, but it won't be my last. I brought a 17 year old friend for his first taste of live opera, and he really enjoyed it. We'll be back!

My friend and I attended a Sunday afternoon performance of "Figaro." The opera was both well sung and well acted.
I am not a hard-core opera fan, but I was able to easily follow the plot, and the large dose of humor injected into the performance had me laughing out loud. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The acting in the Marriage of Figaro was excellent. The singers had impeccable timing and well-thought-out movements--they seemed natural. As a result, the humor in Marriage was great.
The singing was very good. I found that the amount of vibrato was higher than I wished, esp. with Cherbino, but that's my bias. The singers knew the parts down cold.
The orchestra sounded great. There were very few moments of out-of-tune notes. They were professional players.
It is hard to find anything to pick about. I enjoyed the performance thoroughly. My expensive tickets were worthwhile.

This is the first opera I have seen. It was a entertaining and funny story. The cast and performance was excellent. The only reason I give it three stars is due to the fact that the overhead sign displaying the translation kept malfunctioning. It would lose half the display and then reset itself. It became very aggravating during the show. And with the coast of tickets these days I don't think it is too much to ask for such an important piece of equipment too be operational.

I saw Albert Herring at Vogel Hall (Milwaukee) on March 17 at 2:30 pm. I went primarily to see two of my favorite singers: Kathy Pyeatt and Alisa Suzanne Jordheim. Both sang very well, as did the rest of the cast of 13. I was particularly impressed with the acting and singing of the Florentine Studio Artist Kristen DiNinno. The opera is a comic opera lacking much in melody and a libretto somewhat difficuly to understand. It was successful, very much, because of the fine enthusiastic cast and orchestra. I enjoyed it, but Albert Herring will never make my list of favorite operas.
The Florentine's earlier Torando was magnificant, world class and I am looking forward to see their Marriage of Figaro.
This year's Studio Artist group is their best.
