The student productions at Pepperdine are as good as some professional opera companies.
Die Fledermaus was superb. I can't believe all the opera lovers in LA aren't beating the doors down for these events. On top of it all they are one-tenth the price of tickets elsewhere.
I will be coming down from Santa Barbara and telling all my friends in the future.

The members of the Flora Thornton Opera Program at Pepperdine University outdid themselves with a soaring, lush and completely sense-appealing production of Die Fledermaus! The production was so fantastic I came back to see the Saturday performance!

This opera was spectacular. If you missed it you surely missed a most entertaining night. I was mesmerized for three hours (with two intermissions). Didn't want it to end. It was humorous, eye catching, musical, and all encompassing. The orchestra was an added bonus, right on and not overwhelming.

She's a standout. Her acting, superbly nuanced voice, and command of character was so professional. She sparkled throughout! WOW!
The Smothers Theater is an intimate venue...wonderful acoustics!
The orchestra was vibrant, great chorus...brought this chestnut to life.
Still humming Johann Strauss Jr.'s greatest hits. Loved it!

Great opera! My husband and I loved it. The music was amazing, the singing good. One thing that could definitely be improved upon is the acting. But, all in all, it made for a very enjoyable evening!

What a great performance. I have a degree in music and I can say that the performance and sets were at the highest level and very entertaining. This is the best opera performed by top rate singers and pit orchestra musicians. The sets were excellent as well.

Thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Jacobs School of Music does a very professional effort in staging their performances such as opera. This is the second one we have attended, and we enjoyed both of them.
Our only criticism is that perhaps due to the young voices, at times, especially in the singers' lower registers their efforts were unavailable to us in the front row of the second balcony over the pit orchestra.
The above a very slight issue and would not ever keep us from attending the next performance or heartily recommending I.U. Opera to anyone--you will enjoy yourself.
Note: we drove from Michigan to attend (and visit our daughter at I.U.) but the performance really put the icing on the cake. Recommend them to anyone and everyone.

The music was delightful!! The voices were superb!! Every one of them!!! t was a wonderful story and I can't think in one way it could have been improved upon; I didn't want it to end. The whole event was just right for me. Everyone did a super job in making the words very clear.
