I saw these guys in Anaheim right after they released No One's First and You're Next. They played an awesome variety of songs from all of their albums. It was spectacular, probably among my top 5 favorite live performances, and I've been to quite a few. The only complaint I had was that it took a whole hour to come back out for the encore- which is really not fun when you've been standing for 6 hours already.

I have been seeing these guys for years and have never been disappointed, quite the opposite really. But this show was a bit different. The sound was not loud enough, I found myself straining to hear lyrics. The time between the first act and Modest Mouse left everyone hanging for what seemed to be forever, but was actually nothing compared to how long they made us wait for the encore. Maybe they were just trying to cull the herd a bit for the die hards, but don't make us suffer. Maybe I am just bitching cause I got off work early in Eugene to drive up, alone, and then had to drive back after the show to work again in the morning.
That all being said, these guy serisouly rock and I was beyond pleased with the song selection, heaps of oldie. Loved it. So stinkin good.

Modest Mouse has been a favorite band of mine since I was 5. Going to this concert was a dream come true. I knew from the start that most of the showgoers would be Portland hipsters, but that was fine with me. I managed to get a spot at the very front on the bar. This was going to be great. Everyone there, including myself I must admit, wished that the opening band would hurry up and finish their thing so the main event could begin. However, right from the start Morning Teleportation put on a phenomenal performance. Too bad all the other people were too stuck up to see what an amazing band these guys were. They made Modest Mouse look boring, although I did have fun with them too. The virdict: Morning Teleportation put on a better performance musically, visually, and conceptionally than Modest Mouse.

If you are a fan of Modest Mouse you will enjoy the show, but on this night the sound at the ball room was horrible. There was almost constant feed back from start to finish. The songs that they selected to play that night were good, but with a new ep out you think they would play some of the songs on it, they only played one new song. And as for the more popular songs such as float on, ocean breathes salty, and dashboard, they were strangely missing from the set list. This didn't really bother me that much because of the bands huge bag of songs that real fans would recognize was out in full force. Even with the bad sound and the hour and a half it took modest mouse to set up after their opener, if you are a fan of Modest Mouse they are a must see even on their worst night.

Modest Mouse has never let me down.... They are the most amazing band I have seen.. they suck you in, hold tght, and let you go on a Modest Mouse high. I brought a semi-MM listener with me to the show, and now he will be an addict. Third time ive seen them, and most definately not the last.

when you pay for a show, they shouldn't make you wait 40 minutes till they come out and play another two songs and then disappear again. So much waiting for so little music. And how much do we need to stroke their ego's for them to come out and play? What they played was good, but otherwise they were pretty obnoxious. I'm not going to anymore of their concerts.

Waited an hour and a half between opener and MM. Not cool. Bad sound, off key. Played for an hour and fifteen and it took 45 min for them to come back for encore-we left after a half hour. Have seen 3 great shows by MM and #4 was such a disappointment(and in their home town!) may never see them again.

The night began with mimicking birds playing some pretty cool songs, then their time ran up and they left. The stage was soon set for modest mouse, they took awhile to come on but right when they touched the stage the audience erupted. The songs sounded amazing live and the band had a hold on the audience that made them go wild. This was definitly a concert worth seing!

I was excited to see Modest Mouse play, but wish I wouldn't have arrived at the venue until like 11:00. The cover band that played before them was alright, I enjoyed their mellow style, but it was a litte depressing to be honest, and it also put me in a down mood. I expected something more upbeat to pump me up for the show, or atleast a band with some stage presence. It almost seemed like this band didn't want to be looked at. They stopped playing at about 9:30, and then for almost the next hour and a half, all I saw was one or two band members from Modest appear on stage every now and then to tweak some of the instruments, along with Modest Mouse tracks playing in the background that I really couldn't hear at all.
I was a little confused at first about why it was taking so long to set up the instruments for the show when I'm sure they must've done this before anyone was allowed in, not to mention this was the 4th night of playing. My confusion then turned to annoyance and then eventually to irritation and anger as time went on and on and on, much like everyone around me. I heard a couple of groups almost start chants like "screw Modest Mouse" and then others who were just booing. It felt like they would never axctually start playing, and I must say that this was not a smart move on the band's part because watching them "set up" for the 45 minutes before they were supposed to come on was annoying enough, but then standing around pissed off and bored for another 30 minutes was almost unbearable. When they finally got going, the show was pretty good. I didn't really like their first song choice; after all that waiting and anticipation I expected something that would blow my ears off, but it was a more mellow song and didn't really get me excited for the rest of the show.
Overall, the show was good, but I think their little stall is unforgivable. It really gave off the impression that they didn't care that their was a huge audience waiting to see them, and that they had better things to do, like get drunk, backstage. I would reccomend this show to Modest Mouse fans, but my advice is: Show up 30 minutes after they are supposed to come on, and if you don't at least wear comfortable shoes because my legs and feet were killing me last night, and are definitely sore today.

The opening act, Mimicking Birds, left much to be desired. That said, the drummer was perhaps the most unique performance I've seen on a stage in a long time and he was actually still a good drummer. The frontman had a David Gray-like persona and was also good, but the audience could barely hear the whisper of his accoustic guitar. What we could hear, however, was the Phishlike (though not as good) guitar ramblings of the second guitarist, whose presence was like that of a drunken fraternity brother invited to the stage by a childhood friend because they felt sorry for him. It ruined the act. Completely.
Perhaps the worst part of the night was waiting for an hour of empty space, far beyond the sound check, for the headlining band to grace the audience with their presence on the stage. Having enjoyed recorded Modest Mouse immensely, but never seeing them live, I was beginning to question the wisdom of staying and waiting. I waited. And waited.
When Modest Mouse finally took the stage they absolutely killed. The thumping, jumping, bumping pulse of drum, base, the crowd jumping up and down in unision was intoxicating and thoroughly enjoyed. I would go to see them again in a heartbeat, but make sure I have plenty with me to entertain myself with should it take them a while to find the stage again.

I didn't even get to watch them perform... the concert was supposed to start at 9 and they didn't come on until 11 or so... I was hot, tired and sick of waiting around so my guest and I just left. Wasn't worth our time if they were so inconsiderate.
If I knew they were going to perform so late I would have come at a different time. I know many other people felt that same way! Disappointing... ; (

Everytime I see these guys they rock my socks. This is the first time in 5 years that I have seen them so I was a little worried (their albums haven't been great reciently) but the show was amazing. The thing I have to bitch about is the wait they put the crowd through. Not only was the set change rediculously long but the wait for the encore was the length of a normal set change. Don't be divas guys! Making your fans wait so long is really lame! Otherwise great show, would recomend it to anyone (just plan on standing for a long time.)

I really liked the concert and Modest Mouse did a great job, but they didn't start playing until 1030 pm. It was 45 minutes after the starter band finished. It was a long wait. We had to leave the concert early to relieve our babysitter. i wished they didn't take 45 minutes. It's a long time between bands.

I've seen modest mouse at Edgefield before, and it was amazing. There were so many people crammed into the crystal, that I couldn't even see the band through most of the show. I don't know if they were playing mostly older songs that I'm not familiar with, or if it was stuff from their recent B side album, but I didn't recognize most of the songs. Plus the crowd had to wait 45 minutes between the opening band and modest mouse, very lame. We left a little over halfway through because, if I'm gonna be dead tired at work the next day, it's gonna be for a good show. I still will see them again, but not at an indoor venue.
