The only thing missing was the cigarette smoke!

I saw Frank at the Blue Note in Manhattan, it's a small cramped club with over-priced food and there couldn't be a better place to see him. Yes, the performance was short at just a little bit over an hour, and yes, the keyboard playing the violin parts didn't sound right to me, especially since his small band was so good and tight, but...
He was fantastic! Playing longer than he had, he would have drawn too many comparisons to Senior. His voice was, to me, indistinguishable from Senior's; he was personable and funny -- the selection of music perfect, the band tight, well-balanced and talented. The effect of listening to these great classics by, essentially, the same voice that made them classics in a small club in Manhattan was absolutely magical.
To top it off, a singer who was a contemporary of Senior and nearly as popular, dropped in to see Junior's gig. Unfortunately, they didn't sing together for us, but his being there was great.
I hate cigarette smoke, but I would have smoked them if I could have at that concert -- the concert was the closest thing to going back in time to 1965.
