This was my very first concert, so I hope that I don't get reamed by other "pro-concert goers" if such a term or groups exists. I love the DEFTONES so much! Their music helped me to get out of some pretty dark places by gaining the courage to explore them and conquer them. Every album is on my iPhone and I am even learning to play violin because of the excitement of covering a lot of their songs.
Now, what I did not like was that they only played like 2-3 of their new songs. Koi No Yokan is SUCH a great album and I think that it will never get the credit it deserves because the songs were sort of poised haphazardly. I think that the most popular songs are actually the worst ones. No, I am not a "hipster, scene, indie, etc." person, it is just the quality of the sound, harmonizing the shift in songs with the instrumental shift; this performance was starved of that. What Happened to Goon Squad, Birthmark, Risk, Prince, Beware, UUDDLLRRSelect, Start, What Happened to You, Savory?
Maybe everyone goes to concerts with higher expectations these days, but Chino we are your fans because we love all of your music, not just the "one's that everyone knows" people don't really make history with that. Even though my criticism may sound overly harsh, I do understand that the worsening condition and ultimate loss of one of your precious band mates may be difficult to cope with and I would hope that this loss will strengthen the group rather than to tear it apart. It would break my heart even more for you all to stop making music!
Sincerest Condolences/Respectfully Yours,
