I'm a fan of Garbage, so it is tough to write this review. However, the sound was simply terrible, and I'm being generous. Overamped bass, distortion (unintended parts of the music), and vocals were barely audible and indistinguishable from noise for most of the show. I've been to other concerts at the Pearl and this one by far had the worst sound. Yes, 103dB loud is fine, but I should be able to tell whether I'm listening to a chainsaw or a rock band. Unfortunately, at times the difference was indistinguishable. You could tell that even Shirley's earpieces weren't working properly as she routinely pointed to them and at one point in the show ripped one out of her ear.
Bands should really take time during sound check to listen from positions in the auditorium. Clearly they shouldn't just rely on their sound board operator.
Showmanship was spot on, but nevertheless the evening was disappointing.

Favorite moment: When Shirley shot back some snarky comments about how "there's always one" person who thinks they are "clever or original". @
Opening act(s): Kitten -- manic, distorted, distracting lead singer and band. There's talent there, but they need to address some showmanship and get some more musicality into their act. Less frenzy would improve their show. They suffered from the same terrible sound setup as Garbage. @
