There was something oddly romantic and at the same time sadly emotional about The Magnetic Field's performance. I love their songs and Merritt's wit. They put on a great show and upon departure, I found myself reminicing (more than I like to admit) about loves lost and revenge fascinations. I loved it.
As for Devotchka, I have seen them a couple of times at smaller, grittier venues, and they have been incredible, every time. I did find this particular performance a bit underwhelming. I understand that they were the opening band, and yes, they were acoustic, but they played all their 'biggest' songs, and felt like they left me waiting for the punchline.
Either way, both Devotchka and The Magnetic Fields were splendid.
