Favorite moment: When Patti nread a poem, titled "Children," in honor of the schoolchildren murdered two days prior at Sandy Hook Elementary. @
Setlist: "Children (Poem)," "Christmas Time Is Here," "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," "O Come, All Ye Faithful," "Because the Night, "People Have The Power." @
Opening act(s): Thornbills, Don Fupree, The Curmudgeons, Jody Raffoul, Chef Chris, Jennifer Westwood with the Waycross Georgia Farmboys, Ty Stone, Vin Dumbumskiand Luis Resto. @
For any fan of Patti Smith this was a real treat, a chance to see her do perhaps her one-and-only performances of Christmas songs.
As with any such event, some of the acts will thrill you, while others will have you running for the lobby. As they were pretty-much all doing Christmas songs, even some performers whom I didn't expect to like were okay. The best act, after Patti Smith (of course), was The Thornbills, followed by Chef Chris and Don Duprie. The only acts that I didn't like were Vin Dumbumski and Jennifer Westwood. The former had a loud, screaming guitar that made me wince in horror, while the quality of Ms. Westwood's voice, for me, is akin to that of a cat being chased up a chalkboard by a pitbull.
Still, the chance to see Patti Smith do songs that she'll, at best, rarely perform, is an honor and a delight. Well-worth enduring the two people mentioned above.
