I have to say I'm a huge fan, so pretty hard for him to disappoint me. I know some concert goers don't care for his lack of interaction with the crowd, but who needs it when the music is so good! The small venue is for him and this band. I felt like I was on the old Unplugged show. 2 cellists, a violin, flute, piano, harpsicord, upright bass, classical guitar....amazing. Of course, Van the Man directing the whole thing. He's in great voice and Astral Weeks is the perfect material for him to perform live. It's expensive, but well worth it in my opinion.

This concert was just beautiful. The audience was disappointed though. I was at Foxwoods casino, MGM Theater and I heard people on the elevators/ bar and in the casinos afterward complaining that they didn't like his "new stuff"- they wished he played his best hits. Most people didn't know what the concert was about. The music was transporting. Van sang with feeling. I can't get enough Astral Weeks. It doesn't get old. I never thought I would see it live and was completely happy with the experience.
He didn't do an encoure which many people thought was rude. I was just happy with the show and didn't feel slighted in any way. It was more than I ever expected to hear in 2009, 40 years after this magical albumas released.

I know that we should respect the genius of this artist, but no one is above it all. I know it was my choice to spend $100 per ticket, but sometimes certain expectations come along with that.
Here are my gripes:
1. started at 7:59pm to no introduction, except simple announcement over speaker system. (People continually shuffled in for first 25 minutes)
2. No emotion, interaction with crowd, introducing band members
3. MUMBLES? I don't know how to explain it but he SLURS his speech.
4. Will not play the sing-alongs you love
5. Stopped promptly 90 minutes later, leaves stage before last song is finished
6. No thank you, good night, anything (in this economy, we are still supporting him)
I found it rude and I was embarrassed for myself. I felt like a sucker. Do not be a sucker, spend your hard earned money on enjoying yourself and your family. Buy the 12dollar CD and take the $200 and spend a night together....it will be so much better than supporting this talented, yet egotistical musician. The best review I have read said it perfectly: "He seemed tired and it was as if he did not want to be there"
Well Van, we will not want to be there anymore either! Fellings mutual!
