Well where should I begin, let us begin at the end of the 1980's, when I first discovered Natalie's amazing voice with 10,000 Maniacs, it is was love at first song. I've stayed a fan of her music to this day and unfortunately I've never had the chance to watch her perform live until last night at the Saratoga Mountain Winery (my favorite concert venue ever!). She started her concert late and at first seemed confused with the stage set up and kept staring at different areas of the venue, but she and her band still managed to sound amazing.
Played a couple of good songs (none of her real hits like "Wonder", "Thank you", "These are the Days", etc) and then stopped and introduced her new album "Leave Your Sleep", which is based on 1800's & 1900's century children poems, very nice actually and told the audiance she was going to play "some" songs from the new album....that combined with a "power point" style screen presentation was actually very nice.....until I realized she was going to play her ENTIRE new album which ended up taking 85% to 90% of her total concert time on stage!
The peformance of basically every single song of her new album dragged on and on and on until she basically ran out of time and ended her show abruptly by just saying "good night." As expected, with only 15 minutes left before she had to shut-down the music by the venue's policy, she came back out to do a terrible, rushed & half-assed acoustic version of only 3 of her REAL HITS before she had to completely shut down.
I was VERY disappointed as I had SUPER high expectations from Natalie Merchant, the artist I waited over 20 years to see live! My God, I was in total disbelief of how Natalie managed to simply neglect and don't care about the major factor that made her the big star that she is, her real hits music.....The Weather, These are Days, Because the Night, Carnival, etc, etc etc.
By Natalie FORCE-FEEDING her entire new album to us and neglecting to play her beloved hits I felt like she slapped on the face me and every other fan who went to watch her play these wonderful songs that were not played (although she did play half-ass versions of Carnival & Thank You at the very end, when most people had already left).
Natalie Merchant, if for some reason you read these reviews and you are reading this one, you sadly disappointed this fan who has waited half of his life to watch you perform live......it was a very sad day for me indeed.

Favorite moment: Spending time relaxing at the Mountain Winery venue before the show started. @
Setlist: 3 hits played, but unfortunately played rushed, acoustic and half-assed. @
Opening act(s): None, although any opening act would have done a better job than Natalie did in her forced-feeding show. @
