Peter Mayer rewarded the faithful all evening with a mix of old and new originals, combined with some anticipated Beatles covers. The show started with a short but dynamic set from R. Scott Bryan on guitar, setting the electric tone of the evening. Then Peter and the band launched into a set list that had a fun, loose feel making for a terrific show. Right out of the box , Peter gave us, "Last Island", then burst into "Cool Blue Swing". A wonderful rendition of "Heaven Help Us", altered the dynamic of the set at that point and served as a reminder that Peter's music is as diverse and uplifting as ever. "Morningstar Cafe" came as a surprise, followed by "Shall We Dance", then my favorite "Chain of Love". The rocking guitar riffs on "The Onion" really got the audience moving. The second set was devoted to Beatles covers. Maggie Estes along with a small string section provided just the right touch. Peter's beautiful daughter, India, joined the band on stage to sing "Here Comes The Sun". And I was totally struck by Peter's version of "Michelle", hanging on every perfect note. When the audience joined Peter in singing "Penny Lane", his expression was a satisfied smile. The request section included a raucous "BB's Got the Blues", and "Green Eyed Radio" was pure fun.
If you haven't been to one of Peter's shows you're missing out on a fantastic evening of feeling alive and connected. I highly recomend it.
