The opening band, Charlottesville's Sons of Bill, was a good complement to the master songwriter. Robert Earl Keen seemed genuinely touched by the enthusiasm of the Richmond crowd. The venue is a great place to see a show, but the vocals for both bands were a little "muddy." If it's a sound check problem, that's one thing. This was my first event at the National though and I was disappointed that I was straining to understand the lyrics.

This is a hard one to review. The performers struggled with terrible sound mixing all night. the sound from the Mains, were very bad. The mid-range frequincies were very "muddy" could not understand any vocals at all.Either the Sound Tech sucked, or being my first trip to the National, it could be the equipment, though I suspect the Tech. Robert earl, as usual, gave his all.

I was expecting to see a concert with all three artist and there bands playing like a normal show goes. It was just the three guys up there Blue collar comedy style. While they sounded just fine it wasn't what i went to see and the show was over by about 9:45.

We have seen these guys separatly quite a bit - at least 3 times each. Robert Earl was great and that was refreshing - the past 2 times we've seen him he has seemed angry and intoxicated! Todd was awesome as usual....wished he'd have sung more.....he didn't sing any of his brand new stuff - Bruce was great too....love the hair!

Excellent night of accoustic storytelling at the Opera House on Thursday. Todd Snider and Robert Earl Keen were excellent as usual and Bruce Robison picked up several hundred new fans. All the acts did an amazing job of connecting with the audience and everyone had a great time.

Hands down, one of THE best concerts I've been to. I love REK with his band, but three amazing singer/songwriters with 3 acoustic guitars was beyond fantastic. I would LOVE to see them again!

Well I drove over two hours to Kentucky to see Robert Keen, Robert Keen and I'd do it again if I had the chance. It you are a Keen fan you will know every song. Also does several from The Rose Hotel. Of course you have the new CD right? Each artist played about a 20 minute solo set with Robert coming out first. Then they played a set together, separately as Robert explained. Each taking a turn. I was unfamiliar with Bruce Robison but he has written hits for George Strait, Tim McGraw and the Dixie Chicks. Todd Snider was great and a little more off beat than the Texas boys. They wore cowboy boots and , well Todd looked like the mayor of East Nashville. Todd's songs got a great response from the audience and rightly so. It's a very laid back , intimate and very fun show. Robert came out to the swag table after the concert for photo's and autographs so bring your stuff.

Robert Earl Keen was joined on an equal footing by Todd Snider & Bruce Robison, both brilliant songwriters in their own rite. The night was fun, intimate & engaging, even though the venue pretty much requires that you keep your seat & doesn't allow a lot of space for getting up to dance. Each performer took about 20 minutes on their own, then came onto stage together and took turns singing songs. They played together & sang along on a few of them, but not every song. They seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as the audience, so it was a real treat for those who got to see them play! I did talk to a girl after the show who was really disappointed because she just came to see Robert Earl. That's a real shame, because there were three musical giants on that stage & the audience got a rare glimpse of these guys jamming together that won't be soon forgotten.

I had seen Todd Snider before, but had never seen Robert Earl Keen or Bruce Robison and didn't really know their music. All three were in their element. Having Robert Earl start the show, followed by Robison and Snider was the right thing to do. Because it was just the musician and his guitar/harmonica, there was no delay when one came off stage and one came on. After the intermission, when all three were on stage taking turns playing their songs, was the highlight. You could tell that they enjoyed being up there together and enjoyed each other's music. Dialogue between songs was minimal with the music at the front.
Glad I went and would definitely see any of three when they come back through the area.
