The Levon Helm band was in true form with a blend of gospel, blues jazz and rock. Everyone shined in that band, the horns, strings, keys, drums and singing. it kept the audience excited and on their feet thoughout the evening.

Levon Helm was under doctor's orders not to sing after recent sugery, but there is nothing getting in the way of his remarkable charisma and chops on the drums. He brought his magnificent band to the Satnley Theatre September 26 and it was a show that will not soon be forgotten. Though it is always a treat to hear Levon's vocals, he has ample talent in his band and vocal duties were shared by his daughter Amy, keyboardist Brian Mitchell, giutarist/mandolin/violin player Larry Campbell and guitarist/vocalist Teresa Williams. He has a horn section that could not be beat, solid guitar playing with both Larry Campbell and Chuck Weibel. And if that weren't enough, you can't ask for more than having Donald Fagan perform on keyborads and vocals as well.

Ofcourse like more others I was disappointed to not hear Levon sing. With that said it was amazing to see him pound on the drums. What great energy and love he has for music. To see Donald Fagon was an unexpected gem. I will be looking to do a Midnight Ramble in the coming year because i really want to hear Levon blast out he's music like only he can do.. Excellent show

The music was so great! What a show! Everyone in the band was so talented and we were memorized throughout the show. So glad we went and would love to see them again whenever they come to the area. Although Levon wasn't able to sing, they still put on an excellent event. Thanks for such a great great evening!

The concert was an awesome blend of great musicians and singers and while Leon did not sing due to his recent biopsy, his skills as a drummer were phenomenal.
His daughter Amy had the voice of an angel and while I felt the group was more bluesy country then rock, her harmony with the other two singers made the show.
I was impressed with the piano/keyboards, thewhole brass section, the drums..
A great group of talent that I now will travel to see.

While Levon could not sing, he is recovering from a medical procedure, his performance and that of the band were truely outstanding. The wide variety of music styles added to the enjoyment of the program. The entire band are truely wonderful musicians and they showed their talent to the crowd.
Levon and his band were humble and gracious to the crowd. They played and sang to the crowd in a manner that they showed how much they truely enjoyed performing.
This performance should not be missed.

The concert was great. Audience was supportive of Levon Helm's battle w/cancer. Donald Fagan, Amy Helm and Teresa Williams were great; horn section execellent. We had 5th row seats and the crowd really enjoyed themselves. wished they played moe "band tunes".

I am 55 years old and have seen many concerts over the years including Woodstock and the Atlantic City rock Festival which was also the summer of 69. The show last night ranks up there with one of the best concerts i have ever been to. Even though Levon could not sing, his presence and drum and mandolin playing were great. Larry Cambell on Guitar and vocals,Wow, he is one of the best guitar players in the world. His lead in to The Weight was beautiful. I have heard of Brian Mitchell but never seen him in concert. His keyboard playing and singing were topnotch. The whole band was fantastic!! If you get a chance to see this band by all means DO IT!!

Although Levon continues on vocal rest, that's the only rest he got !! He kept the band tight, and they put on a great show. They played a tremendous mixture of of selections from a rich and varied musical vault. Lots of selections from The Band. Very limited selections from the two most recent releases. Appearance and performance by Donald Fagan was outstanding, and they even played a Steely Dan selection! One encore. The last few selections had the audience standing and singing along (e.g. The Weight). Total time was about 2 hours 15 minutes.
Downside consisted of:
- a few selections with somewhat muddied audio vocals
- seemed to have intermittent instrument problems which created some distractions on stage as they worked through them
- spotlight operator was totally clueless. Often on the wrong people. Could not find who was to be focused on, etc. Created a visually distracting evening thoughout. Facial expressions on the performers also were telling, they occasionally looked confused as to why they were in the spotlight, and sometimes would try to move around to assist with proper location - but usually to no avail. This was disappointing.

The show was typical Levon Helm...GREAT, even without him being able to sing. Is soooo nice to see a group that really loves playing together.. From where we sat, some of the tunes seemed a bit muffled. Possible a bit too loud..

The Levon Helm band put on a 2 1/2 hour show that was a memorable excursion through Americana.. The 12 piece band was led by Levon Helm, who was not able to sing due to recent throat surgery. Levon kicked in a sharp backbeat throughout and even took turn on Electric Mandolin for a couple tunes. The vocals were spread out through 5 other members of the band including multi-instrumentalist Larry Campbell, Keyboardist Brian Mitchell, Theresa Williams, Amy Helm (Levon's daughter) and special guest Donald Fagen, on loan from Steely Dan. The show opened with a carousing version of "The Shape I'm In" and proceeded to feature music songs from Levon's recent cd "Electric Dirt" including a crowd-pleasing take on the Dead's "Tennessee Jed". The 4 piece horn section took turns soloing during the night, while adding a brassy back-up to the rollicking set. Donald Fagen had vocal leads on the Steely Dan classic, "Black Friday", the Band staple, "King Harvest" and traded vocals on "the Weight", where the Tuba player even took an instrumental verse. Other Band classic's covered included "It Makes No Difference", "Across the Great Divide" and "Chest Fever",with an extended guitar intro from Larry Campbell.. The encore featured Donald Fagen leading the way of Dylan's "I Shall Be Released".
