I HAVE SEEN DAVID GRAY PERFORM 3 TIMES NOW AND I WISH I COULD REALLY EXPLAIN HOW AWESOME HIS SHOW WAS. HE SOUNDS BETTER LIVE THAN ON ANY CD HE HAS MADE (AND HIS VOICE SOUNDS PERFECT ON HIS ALBUMS!) I'VE ALWAYS WONDERED WHY PEOPLE WOULD EVER WANT TO FOLLOW A BAND ON TOUR THROUGHOUT THE U.S. AND EUROPE, BUT NOW I KNOW. I WISH THE ORPHEUM WASN'T HIS LAST SHOW AND I HAD THE CHANCE TO SEE HIM PLAY AGAIN. IF YOU EVER GET A CHANCE TO SEE HIM PLAY LIVE, GO!!!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

The concert was great. I love watching David Gray and his band perform. The Orpheum is a beautiful place to hold a concert like this, however, it would be nice if they are going to have a sit down concert...that everyone sits down. There was a group in front of us who decided to be the most obnoxious people in the building. They would stand up and dance while people behind them stretched their necks to see the concert. Maybe they could have the ushers encourage this type of concert-goers to sit down, or have a place for people who want to stand up and dance.
Also, the opening band was quite enjoyable, as well.

not the greatest entertainer. :-(
I wish he would have interacted even a tiny bit, with the audience. He only said "thank you" a few times, and that was it. He is an exceptionally talented songwriter and musician, but the show was too fast-paced (he went from song to song to song to song without much of a pause). He got into his performance well, though.. and I enjoyed that the entire band wears suits. :) Charming!
David Gray sounds just as great live, as he does on his albums - I admire and seek that out! I expected that of David Gray, as it is easily displayed through his lyrics and music.
The lighting was also undesirable. The spotlights were on the floor of the stage and tilted directly into the retinas of the audience. At one point, the lights were flashing, and it hurt my eyes, and I could tell most people stopped getting into the music at that same time out of this mild agony.
All in all, good show, LOVED the venue (Orpheum in LA).. it's a majestic-y, old-world display.. and the architecture is breathtakingly beautiful. Easy to walk through/won't get lost easily, lots of space, and clean.

This was the second time I saw David Gray, both being in LA. I thought both times were worth the $ and had a great time. Did enjoy the first time at "The Wiltern" moreso. Felt he played more of his old material, which I enjoyed more. Also, he seemed to interact with the audience more at "The Wiltern", possibly due to the slightly smaller venue there. Overall, had a great time.

This was my first time seeing David Gray. I'm the type of person who has always had a preference for live bands and uncut releases over studio productions. David Gray much more than satisfied my need of liveliness! Great show! I'd love to see him again. The venue was fabulous too, intimate setting for a big show.

Awesome show-
First off Lisa Hannigan was a nice surprise. I was not that familiar with her music prior to the concert. She is a true musican that sang while playing a multitude of instruments. Beautiful voice and and tight band. Prior to the concert I read a previous review from some uptight lady in Chicago she must have seen a differant person on stage because the Lisa Hannigan I saw rocked the show.
Next off the main reason I went to see the concert, David Gray. I first saw him many years ago opening for Nelly Furtado and turned into an instant fan. I grew to love his early work and the emotion he puts into his Songs. I highly recommend his album " The Lost Songs" kind of his best of the early years. David is an amazing artist that sings from the heart. Needless to say my expectations were high going into the show. It took a while for me to get accustomed to his new band, I personally think David sounds best solo are with limited backup sound, but as the show went on the new band grew on me. ( It could also have been the mix got better)I love his new album and it is another side of David rather than rehashed familar sounds that a lot of artists end up doing after years of playing.
Awesome Show.

My first time seeing David Gray. I have been obsessed for 3 months now, my wife was wondering what all the fuss was about. I surprised her and flew her to see David Gray from Phoenix to LA. She didnt know what we were doing until show time. Once we got to the Orpheum theatre she figured it out and was shocked. He was so good in person and my wife really is a huge fan as well now. It was one of our more memorable nights together and we have been married 14 years and together for 19 years. The ending to "NEMESIS" was crazy great. Wish he would have sung "Full Steam" with his opening act women Lisa Hannigan?? He is extremely powerful and I am your typical type A personality male who loves sports and being a guy, but for some reason David Gray has found me and I can not get enough of his music. My 9 and 11 year old boys love his music now as well, since they are stuck in the car going to baseball games and practice listening.

Great energy from Mr. Gray and his crew from the start. Right away he cranked up his pure voice and matching musical talents, complete with his signature bobble-head dance moves, to really get things going. Good mix of new stuff with the sing-along standards, uptempo with the melancholy. My only lament was the (bright) stage lights shining into the eyes of us balcony denizens on half the songs, but it was almost worth it due to the stellar choreography of said lights. Oh, and the girl next to me who knew every word to every song, but did not have similar relationship with pitch or tone: that was less than sweet. So it goes.

What a great show this was. I was a bit upset that they decided to start the opening act a bit before 8pm (note to Orpheum - start on time - we paid for the show!). Lisa was a refreshing surprise (I've had a lot this year). Her voice is sweet, silky and sultry. Her music and lyrics were eclectic and it had felt as if I had hear her before. Bjork, meets Dolores O'Riordan meets Meiko? Personal Jesus rocked! Either way - she was great.
I've only recently come into David Gray's music and was not really sure what to expect in a live show. Would he be drab and monotonous? Would he sound as good as he does recorded? Would his music be diverse enough to hold me through an entire show? Yes, Yes, Yes.
Gray had a ton of energy, played all if his hits, some new stuff and a few that I have never heard. His band was tight and they played about 15 or so songs in total. All were masterfully played and I now have a much higher appreciation for Mr. Gray. His music punched my soul and floated my heart. You cant beat lyrics that say "You don't have to turn the sound up, babe I want you from the ground up!" Whether on piano or guitar, Gray's energy was felt throughout the entire theater. His band was equally as good, although his keyboardist could use a personality pill.
Overall a great concert and glad I went.

I had only recently come to know David Gray (earlier in the spring of this year) and was really taken by both his lyrics and his vocal style. I discovered that he was coming to Los Angeles and got tickets, not knowing what kind of live performance he would present.
Well, he was just wonderful. He and his band were extremely well rehearsed, and showed no signs of fatigue at what was the end of this year's long tour. David was emotive and emotional, improvised with daring, and yet was surprisingly self-contained and modest in his aspect. There was a great warmth in the Orpheum, induced by the wonderful warm-up act of Lisa Hannigan, and it carried through to the end of the performance.
I will make it a point to attend his concerts.
