Bela Fleck is is probably the most virtuoso artist on the banjo today. But more important, musicality is what comes for him first. With Chick Corea, he found a fantastic partner for musical communication. And this communication is what makes the difference.

Have seen Chick Corea with Bela Fleck before, and was so happy to get the opportunity to see them together again; it was a wonderful program and they were generous enough to do a rather long encore. Highly recommended. Co-workers returning that night from vacation lamented that their travel plans prohibitd their attndance; not sure if their son has forgiven them yet.

A real snooze fest. Very disappointed, did they even do a sound check ? The banjo sound clarity was terrible. It sounded as if the strings were laying flat on the frets.My wife and I did not return for the second set. I would rather listen on my home stereo. So much for concert hall sound being better.

This is one of the best concerts I have ever attended!! Bela and Chick are incredibly talented. Put them together and you have a really special evening! The Milwaukee audience "gets it", and was hooked from the get go! If you appreciate complex and intelligent music, then you will thoroughly enjoy this duo as they work together flawlessly to create new and exciting things for you to listen to. New harmonies. Different rhythms. A must see!!

This was probably my favorite show I've ever been to. I've never seen Chick Corea in person, but I've seen Bela Fleck many times. Both are masters of their instruments. Both are legendary composers as well as improvisers. To see them together on one stage was a show of musicianship that will never be rivaled.

I have been an avid follower of Chick and Bela since the early 80's. This concert was the finest example of their musical fusion. I have never heard better playing from either. Probably one of the most memorable concerts in my life.

chick corea is one of the best fusion pianist but combined with a banjo - no.... i was hoping for a jazz show complimented with a banjo. it turned into a night of blue grass banjo playing with a piano in the background. not what i was counting on.....

That was the second time that I saw Chick Corea and Gary Burton together on stage. I showed up early for the general admission seats and my friend and I enjoyed first row seats just in front of Chick. What an amazing concert. Flawless. Chick and Gary were gracious and generous, peppering their masterful performance with witty comments about the music and the audience. It was a perfect and memorable evening.

The magic, the artistry, the precision, the brilliance of these two jazz musicians playing together continues as it began in the '70's. Each are playing better than ever. They are in a class of their own which no one has never been replicated. I have listened to their music throughout my life and this was the first time to see and hear them together. Seeing genius at work is awe inspiring. "Crystal Silence" brought tears -- remembering the impact of that first album and that songs tender but powerful beauty.

What can you say? Jazz legends performing. This was my first time seeing Chick or Gary. They were great as were the Harlem String Quartet. It's refreshing to see musicians performing music without the gimmicks and trappings of mainstream popular song performance. These musicians wore normal clothes! Gary leaning over his vibes could have been mistaken as my neighbor leaning over his backyard grill. In other words, it's all about the music with these guys, and the brilliance of their music comes across. Music, however, is not the only thing being played out on stage. An old friendship between two great talents is also presented.
Do not pass on this engagement. It's medicine for the musical malediction this culture currently suffers under.

Purchased tickets on a whim, based pretty much solely on what I knew of the artists' music from 3 Gary Burton CD's and 1 Chick Corea CD in my music library. I figured it would be an awesome, yet typical, jazz concert with the two headliners backed by bass and drums. I found out only after buying that when this duo appears together, it may often be JUST them. I wasn't sure I liked that, but that sentiment evaporated very quickly during the first piece.
Having loved Gary Burton's music over the years, I feel the CD's I own don't do his level of talent justice! He was incredible in person! Amazing to watch.
I didn't love the 2nd half quite as much because the entire 2nd half also included the Harlem String Quartet. While I can certainly appreciate their incredible talent as well, their overall sound isn't my favorite cup of tea. Especially the 2nd half seemed much more academic in musical style - more like a hip recital than a mainly jazz-based concert. It was awesome, but I liked the first half better.
If someone asked me what kind of concert this was, it wouldn't be accurate to just say a jazz concert. While it definitely had many jazz elements, there were classical, concert, modern, afro-cuban/latin elements, etc. It was multi-faceted in style and much more structured music than the typical jazz concert that has the statement of a theme, several improv solos, then re-statement of the theme. Most of this music was well structured, written out - as you could see by the pages and pages of music.
I would go again in a heartbeat. But it's important to understand some musicians can be all over the map depending on what cycle of their musical career they are in, or who they're performing with. Others, you can pretty much know what to expect. Chick Corea and Gary Burton definitely are the former. Same with Wynton Marsalis, for instance. I've heard some of Wynton's stuff that I love and other music that is just too experimental or dissonant for me. I based my decision to drive 3 hours to this concert on some CD's of mine, none of which were the duo together as the concert would be. That was probably a mistake, though in this case the outcome was still wonderful. But just know what you're buying! Check out YouTube for some clips.
