People from all walks of life piled into the elegant State Theatre Monday night to see Marilyn Manson perform sets from his newest album 'The High End of Low' and other classic Manson hits including 'The Dope Show', 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)' and 'Tourniquet'. His performance entailed speaking profainly at the security guards, spitting beer at the undulating crowd, and beautifully uttering every cuss word you can imagine. All of which are typical behavior for Mr. Manson during intense performances and are strangely accepted by his millions and millions of fans, hence "Shock Rocker." In addition, Twiggy Ramirez has rejoined Manson after years apart in attempt to shock the fans once again. This was definitely a gratifying show for all to see!
The show started promptly at 8:00pm with the high energy metal band "Blue Felix". This young metal/grunge/rock band is only described by one word: EXPLOSIVE! Band mates clad in everything from a steel-like head piece to a straight jacket commenced with the energies of the universe and certainly blew the eardrums out of the 2,300 or so people in the crowd:
The lead vocalist, 'Toxsick Tripp' seemed to ricochet from place to place on stage never missing a beat and displaying impressive acrobatics, all in massively tall combat boots! 'Y-Bot' on keyboard/synth was decked out in a steel head mask and welding goggles surged through the ballads with ease...He was definitely on the edge of this world and smoothly sailing into the next! ‘Grimm’ the bassist and a vocalist, exhausted the hell out of his instrument and wowed the fans with his blaring and genial metal vocals. Rellim & X-Hail, both guitarists, prevailed with a powerhouse of dynamic, chromatic sound! This group was nothing less than amazing with their insane exhibition into what the future of metal holds!! I’ll never forget the night I lost my Blue Felix virginity!!
After a forty-five minute intermission the lights dimmed, the fog rolled and sounds of the Antichrist filled State Theatre! Manson opened with ‘We’re From America!’ a track from his new album released this spring. Taking frequent breaks to drink what appeared to be some sort of alcohol (Mansinthe?) during songs, Manson enticed the on looking crowd with profanity, vile behavior and some of the most well know Goth Rock/Industrial/Metal composures of all time. All of which We, as fans, completely love! Definitely showing some wear and tear from the rock ‘n roll lived lifestyle, Marilyn Manson still managed to hypnotize the crowd of undeviating fans. Ending with his famous: “How does it feel to be one of the beautiful people?!,” Marilyn hinged ‘The Beautiful People’. With its impressive drum line, the scene felt as if it was hit by an earthquake…Empowered by the music the crowd dissipated into the smog filled Minneapolis night after a nearly 3 hour concert experience.
