Favorite moment: The song before the encore was Shameless and FINALLY everyone got up and started dancing. I'd been dancing in my seat the whole time. @
Setlist: Anticipate; Untouchable Face; Red Letter Year; Splinters (?); Fuel, Nov. 4th, 2008; Smiling Underneath; Albacore; Names and Dates; Two Little Girls; Tired Old Face(?); Whose Side Are You On?; If You're Not(?), Marriachi(?); Shameless encore: Evolve; Both Hands; Hypnotized @
Opening act(s): Gregory Alan Isakov I was late and didn't see his band's whole performance but I got their CD because they were great. His voice is so beautiful and soothing. @
This was the best concert event I've ever experienced! I was lucky enough to be in the fifth row and it was such a treat. Ani has such amazing presence. The warm smile on her face above her little 5'2 figure belies the energy she puts out. She plays so hard and with such precision. It's like watching the Cirque du Soliel, you see it with your own eyes and you still wonder if it's possible. She's so ceaslessly generous and friendly. The Michigan Theater is an intimate venue but there's something in the way she preforms that makes it feel even more so. Maybe it's the folk mentality that touches all her songs, regardless of genre, that makes it feel so close. She's one of those rare preformers who has that gift of making you feel as if you're sitting in someone's living room listening to her and her band jam. Her positive attitude washed right into the crowd. There was such a friendly, happy vibe. We're all usually happy to be at a concert but we also get on the nerves of the people we're sitting next to. There was a feeling of togetherness and community that I've never seen at a concert. I've made a vow to never miss her concerts when she comes to town.
