This was the best concert event I've ever experienced! I was lucky enough to be in the fifth row and it was such a treat. Ani has such amazing presence. The warm smile on her face above her little 5'2 figure belies the energy she puts out. She plays so hard and with such precision. It's like watching the Cirque du Soliel, you see it with your own eyes and you still wonder if it's possible. She's so ceaslessly generous and friendly. The Michigan Theater is an intimate venue but there's something in the way she preforms that makes it feel even more so. Maybe it's the folk mentality that touches all her songs, regardless of genre, that makes it feel so close. She's one of those rare preformers who has that gift of making you feel as if you're sitting in someone's living room listening to her and her band jam. Her positive attitude washed right into the crowd. There was such a friendly, happy vibe. We're all usually happy to be at a concert but we also get on the nerves of the people we're sitting next to. There was a feeling of togetherness and community that I've never seen at a concert. I've made a vow to never miss her concerts when she comes to town.

First off she does not look anything like the picture of her with purpler hair above the image needs to be updated. She is less fuss and more just all about the music. This was my first real encounter with Ani's music and I was impressed. It was not all "women's power" movement type music, I appreciated this. Her guitar playing as well as the other musicians in her band were great. Lots of ENERGY from Ani and the audience.
NOTE: Her song about Obama was great. I am not a political person could go either way with Obama by her line "Thank you American for being more than I expected" was well put!

I wasn't a big fan before I went. I went because I knew she was talented, and my girlfriend was a fan. I saw she was playing and couldn't pass up the opportunity. Thank God. That was the most amazing concert I have ever been to. If Ani ever comes back, I guarantee I will be there.
-Anais Mitchell (the opening act) was also very good! She's so adorable. She too is talented and very fun to watch.

Ani Difranco is much smaller than you would expect, but such a big voice! It was great to see this voice, this personality, that I've been listening to for years, right in front of me. The Grove was a good setting for her.
With her large catalog of songs, I expected to only know about two that night, and that's about how many I recognized. But it was good to listen to songs that were new to me. The best part was her banter between songs in which we got to hear more about her and the songs.

I am a huge Ani fan, and have seen her many times. As always, she did not let me down. She played some old stuff, some new stuff, and some songs you will never hear on an album. Everything was beautifully performed, and any real Ani fan should have loved it. The venue was nice...the chairs were a little cramped, but that is typical of theater seating. It was very easy to get to compared to the Greek Theater which is where I last saw her in Berkeley. All in all, I had a fabulous time, and will continue to recommend her concerts to anyone interested in hearing strong music from dedicated musicians that care about their craft.

It was stellar. I didn't know what kind of performer Ani di Franco would be, but I was so happy I went. I have always liked her music. She had great stage performance, she interacted with the crowd, she told stories about her songs and herself, and she had a sense of humor. Her show was very lively.

Ani was wonderful. She didn't play long at all, good thing the tickets were not a bad price. I thought that the opening act was good, for what I could hear of her. The crowd was quite chatty through her set and Ani's. Its sad that people can't give these gals some respect and shut up to listen to the music. The opening act was not very loud and she was a soft play = bad combination. We had to fine a security guard guy to tell him to crank her up so we could tell what she was singing.
All in all, it was a good show. Ani was great. The crowd loved her and she sure can pack a house!

I went to see Ani a few years ago at the Schnitz and had a much better experience. I think I'm too old (39) for general admission. Also, she played 4 songs I knew and about 14 I didn't know, probably from a new album I haven't listened to (that would be my fault). I also didn't connect much with the opener, Anais Mitchell.

Maybe it's the Crystal Ballroom's fault - what headliner starts at 9 and ends at 10:30 on a FRIDAY? Ani and her band played an amazing set, of course, and her presence was engaging and fun to watch as ever. I've been following Ani for over a decade and have seen her perform all over Oregon and California. Never before have I felt cheated. I hope when she comes to town again she plays a different venue and makes up for lost time. She's too great a musician to leave her fans wanting so much more.

This was the first show I have ever walked out on. I used to love Ani, I really did. I once rode on a Greyhound bus for seven hours just to see her play a show on the Piers in Seattle. Last night was awful. The Crystal Ballroom is the worst venue to see a show if you have any interest at all in the artist. People talk incessantly, its too loud to make out what is going on on-stage. The opening act was completely drowned out by the noise. It was insanely hot, which inevitably led to an odor that could choke a donkey. The floors were covered with sticky spilled beer that could suck the sorrow off a recent widow. I lost my shoe twice. Ani somehow seemed to lack the spark of excitement that she was known for at her live shows. I left after about five songs. It was too packed and the crowd seemed too restless, as though they were waiting for something amazing to happen...but it never did.

The venue (Zellerbach Hall) was amazing. The acoustics were good, the lighting was beautiful, and the size of the place was good for what it is--not so big that you can't see a performers face if you're sitting in the mezzanine. The show began promptly, and transitions were smooth.
Ani was AMAZING as usual. Anais Mitchell opened for her and she was pretty amazing as well. The comedian who came on before Anais was mostly funny.
Ani sang a bunch of new songs that will be on her upcoming album, which was a huge treat for the crowd.

I have been listening to ani's music since i was in college in London, when no one over there had really heard of her, and my friends and i were just blown away by her sound and smart lyrics. to see her live is a treat, you get a whole new level of power from her voice and her guitar. she is funny, and knows how to rock the house.

This was the 11th time I've seen Ani in concert and she never disappoints. Her focus has shifted a bit over the years and she is all about her daughter now, which is amazing. The new songs she played were much happier but still have that folky, politically charged feel. The two openers were also talented and entertaining.
