Its been quite some time since home town Lady supreme Mary Wilson graced us with a performance here in the motor city. She did not disappoint!! Draped in a black sequined gown with a blinding green wrap,She opened the show with, "Here's To Life", a fitting tune to let us all know this lady can "sang"!! Next were the Supremes biggest hits....love Child, Baby love , You Keep me hanging On, Stop In The name of Love. The energy level was very high tonight. Mary mixed song after song with interaction from the audience...She mentioned her days at Motown, The Brewster projects, old friends, it was obvious to all she was having a great time on stage, and we were enjoying every moment of it! Spotted in the audience were the children of Florence Ballard, Divas Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, and Detroit's reigning Blues Sista, Thornetta Davis. Someone said they spotted Mayor Bing in the audience.
One of the many high points from the show was Mary's rendition of "Both Sides Now." You could hear a pin drop as Ms Wilson sauntered on the stage in what was really a dramatic reading. Another highlight was a tribute to Florence Ballard, "I Am Changing". Mary received a well deserved standing ovation for this fitting tribute.
A tribute to another Diva closed the show, Donna Summer's "Last Dance"! Mary's voice was very strong for this performance tonight. All said and done we were very proud of our hometown girl!! A performance well done!
