Honestly, this was my favorite band at an intimate venue. I've seen all kinds of bands at all kinds of places, and this was my favorite concert EVER!!!
Both bands rocked the house! The Cracker boys were in fine form. They even ditched the keyboards for more garage raunch. I had a terrific time. The venue and crowd were great!

This was my first MOTORHOME show, they're musical enthusiasm and humor got the crowd ready for a great CRACKER show! Cracker played alot from they're new album and a great mix of classic CRACKER.

It was good to see Cracker rock again. They largely did away with David Lowery's acoustic strumming and played rock n' roll like they did in their mid 90's heyday.
Johnny Hickman's Les Paul stylings were superb as usual, but he can't come close to hitting the high notes on the "Sweet Thistle Pie" backing vocal. His only misstep of the night.
The drummer was average. I would've liked a little more snap in the kit. Lowery is obviously entering his Bob Weir stage, what with the beard and extra 35 lbs... Hickman hasn't aged a day. The bass player was decent, if unremarkable.
The songs from the new album were all actually pretty good. As I said, it's nice to see this band back to rocking again and largely moving away from Lowery's plaintive strummy ballads.

The Bluebird is an excellent venue - great acoustics, and small enough that you can get up close and personal with the band.
Cracker - truly amazing live. They are one of the few bands I've seen whose live performances are note perfect and sound exactly like their recordings. Johnny is a fantastic guitarist, and David's powerful voice is always a pleasure to hear.

If you sat home bored on August 27th, 2009 shame on you. You could have been at Vogue Theatre rocking with Cracker. An excellent local band did the warm up honors. I wish bands had their name visible on stage, seeing is remembering. So telling you "they" were very good won't help them or you very much.
I'm not a diehard Cracker fan but I like them and know a good band when I hear one. Those guys are professionals all the way. The show on Thursday accelerated to the finish. They started off fine and from there got deeper and deeper into their groove. David Lowery's voice is so listenable, unique and certainly was in fine form. The sound was really good too. I could actually listen to the music and understand the lyrics. They won me over, I'm a bigger fan since that show. So next time you have the chance to see and hear Cracker perform go for it! Or you could stay home and be bored.

Cracker and Adam Ezra both played unbelievable sets. I had never seen Adam Ezra but he blew the place away with a show that I will most definitely catch again. Cracker came on and played a lot of their new album mixed in with the hits from the past. 2 hours of non stop energy from Cracker. David Lowery is a talent that has never gotten his due. If you have the chance to see them, please do so. I've been dragging people to see them for years and have never walked away disappointed. Johnny Hickman and the rest of the band are top talents and I've never figured out why they aren't more popular. Ten songs into the set list, the place was rocking, as it was from the first note of the night. Lowery doesn't waste time with small talk between songs, instead taking a quick drink of water and then launching into the next great song. Trust me, the are one of the best live bands of our time and if you have the chance to listen to them or catch them live, them do so.

Having last seen David Lowery with his original band CVB ..this was a treat and pretty hard rockin' to boot. Opening with what I feel is the best Cracker album (through and through) that they have ever put out (after years of muted silence), it was a treat to hear the 1st three songs off the new album to start the show ..to think that "Turn On" is a top 20 hit (as David says), well, I guess the masses aren't always stupid ...
True rockers of the night: Sunshine in the Land of Milk and Honey (truly unbelievable) and Hey Bret (Do You Know what time it is) ....these songs just butt rock ...
Along wit hthe old classics ,this was a show for the ages (irrespective of fact I had to haul my tuchus out to Elgin ...yeah ,Elgin .....)

How this band ended up playing in such a small venue I can't figure out, but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. The mighty Cracker did not fail to make this one of the best shows I've ever been too. They played all their hits plus most of the new album "Sunrise In The Land Of Milk And Honey". They were incredible. The show was made even better by having a top rate opening act, Backyard Tire Fire a local band with global potential. Johnny Hickman even joined them for a couple of numbers (awesome). If you've never seen either of these bands do yourself a favor and check them out the next chance you get. Absolutely guaranteed to satisfyingly scratch your rock itch.

IN TYPICAL CRACKER FASHION THE SHOW IN THE DUCKROOM (MAY 15) WAS FANTABUOUS! ALTHOUGH THEIR STAND-BYS WERE A REAL TREAT, THEIR SELECTIONS FROM THEIR NEW CD "SUNRISE IN THE LAND OF MILK AND HONEY" WAS PHENOMINAL! THEY ARE A TRUE ALTERNATIVE BAND! ONCE AGAIN HICKMAN AND LOWERY DIDN'T LET US DOWN!

Cracker started their show with 3 songs from the new release, Sunrise in the Land of Milk and Honey. By the time those three songs had been completed it became apparent to frontman, David Lowery that the crowd was somewhat tame. So back to their roots they went.
For the next 45 minutes the crowd received nothing but the solid classic Cracker complete with Johnny Hickman's guitars riffs and David's towering scratchy vocals.
Overall the show was placed in an interesting venue at Mad Maggies with few technical issues and pretty good sound.
Cracker plays River North tonight in Chicago and if you have the opportunity to see them you won't be dissappointed.

Granted, I'm pretty easy going and not much of a critic.....but I loved this show! The intimate setting made of the Hard Rock Cafe made this concert a personal experience for me. The guys sang my favorites, Eurotrash Girl and Low as well as the favorites of many others in the crown. I drove all the way from Cleveland to Pittsburgh to see them and would do it all over again! Loved the show!!

Not only did Cracker play their classics, but they also played several tunes off their new record. If you haven't bought the new album, I'd be on that like a duck on a June bug. As far as a live show goes, I rank it just one notch shy of the rolling stones. Cracker sounded excellent, they played about 20 songs, and Pabst Blue Ribbon on tap. That's a triple whammy you bunch of monkeys. Plus BWS was on the friggin' scene. One extra note: the concert was sold out. If you didn't buy your tickets in advance, you were about as sharp as two pounds of wet liver. Go on son, buy the album, and for the love of god go to the next Cracker gig and stop whining about missing the last one.
I demand a flip. Flip it. Yes, yes of course.

You know it's great band when Beatle Bob shows up...in spite of his manic antics. Gotta hand it to him, he know good music when hears it. Start to finish, every song rocked. New stuff from "Sunrise in the Land of Milk and Honey" kept the crowd up as well as older tunes like Teen Angst and Eurotrash Girl. Yalla Yalla was a high point, with the veins on Daivid Lowery's neck standing out. Johnny Hickman was in fine form on guitar. Low points... my ears rang for 3 days and they played nothing from Countrysides.

Cracker at the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill was a show I've been waiting to see since I ever heard my first Camper Van Beethoven track. 20 years too late, but worth the wait. Backyard Tire Fire opened and had a great sound, and then Cracker got on stage. The intimacy of the Duck Room meant that we were up close and personal. The crowd was great, and even the songs I didn't know left me singing their choruses on the top of my lungs. The band was in great form and performed songs from nearly every Cracker album (no Camper Van Beethoven songs). Everyone - from the die hard fanclub fans to the tagalong spouses, from 20 year olds to 60 year olds enjoyed the show and had an awesome time. A great band in a great venue.
