My husband brought me to the concert as a wedding anniversary present! It was just absolutely delightful and an absolutely brilliant performance. The only thing that threatened to ruin the experience were two ladies sitting in front of us, who apparently confused this event with a sport event, whistling, screaming making gestures as if they were on the Arsenio Hall show!

I thought the concert was great! I was quite impressed that Mr. Carreras sang with only a piano. At the start of the concert, the staff had failed to attach the music stand to the piano. Mr. Carrera said to the audience, "Part of the piano is missing." He was barely audible. I thought, "Great! If I can barely hear him say that, I won't be able to hear his singing." There were no visible microphones on stage. However, much to my surprize and enjoyment, his singing was loud and clear.
Unfortunately, the person sitting next to me could only utter complaints such as there was no orchestra; why was he singing by himself; he should have chosen other music, etc.
As far as I was concerned, Carreras singing without an orchestra gave the audience 2 hours of his music. With an orchestra, the orchestra would have played for one hour with Carreras singing one hour!

Carreras voice was in excellent condition. The performance was sophistiated and enjoyable in the beautiful Majestic Theatre.

Theatre personnel managed the crowd efficiently, though the event was not a sellout. Sr. Carreras' performance was magnificent--there should not have been an empty seat in the house. The variety of music spanning centuries offered something for everyone and Sr. Carreras' voice demonstrated mastery of each era's/composer's style. The piano accompaniment was facile, beautifully executed and totally complementary to the vocals. The second half of the program proved even more exciting than the first, building to a finish that brought the audience out of their seats. In the best tradition, this performance truly left them "shouting for more!"

It was a treat to see this legend in person in the great old Majestic Theater in downtown San Antonio, Texas. It was pretty much what I expected in that it was at times difficult to hear his full attempted range and it was by most standards a short performance. Considering this type of solo performance we received what we expected. A nice evening overall.

It's the first concert/production I have ever been to that I walked out at intermission. The sound was not loud enough. There was no set--only a piano, pianist, and singer with some plants placed in the very back of the stage. The setting looked like a stage event where people would audition for a performance. At the beginning of the performance, part of the piano was missing (where the music was to be held up), and the performer had to find someone who would put that part on the piano so the pianist could play. The singer sang two songs and then he and the pianist left the stage for a break. Then he sang two songs again and did the same thing and so on. It was just not enjoyable to me.

I purchased tickets expecting a solo performance similar to programs that the Three Tenors had performed in the past, including a full orchestra accompaniment. The Recital format took my wife and I by complete surprise, being only a piano accompaniment without electronic amplification of Jose's voice. Carreras did not introduce his songs or comment to the audience at all, only singing. My wife and I quickly adjusted to the recital reality and loved the fact that we could fully appreciate Carreras' beautiful voice based solely on his own unaided power to project himself. Our seats were 10th row center orchestra which certainly contributed to good listening--not sure how well the upper balcony heard the performance. Carreras performed two sets of nine songs, taking a one or two minute break after every third song (actually leaving the stage). We don't attend Opera, so we only recognized one of the 18 program songs, but he performed two encores (including Granada) which all recognized and appreciated.

Superb voice and talent, but the show was dull.
