Pat Metheny brought his 12-foot wall of Orchestrion instruments, all triggered and controlled from the stage, and played almost 3 hours of amazing music, with his trademark melodies and mind-blowing chord changes and harmonies. His guitar was accompanied by a multitude of percussion instruments, bottles with blowers on them that sounded like wood flutes, xylophone, bells, piano, guitar and bass - all played mechanically by solenoid and computer - connected to his guitar and foot pedals.
His grand Orchestrion experiment is an amazing success, and still almost beyond belief. But, it's the music he writes and plays that is what won over the crowd, and even through pieces lasting 10 or 15 minutes all were transfixed and mesmerized, and gave Pat several standing ovations throughout the evening, mostly for brand new music - not the familiar classics from the first 20 years of his career (1975-1995). Once in a lifetime event and performance from the finest musician on the scene today.

Played too much traditional jazz. Used to his familiar innovative music. He is taking his music in a different direction which was not what I wanted from him.

Pat Metheny is simply one of the greatest guitarist in the world. it's been 20 years since i last saw him, and he was better than ever. The rest of the band, Chris Potter, Antonio Sanchez, and Ben Williams were also amazing players who can stretch out on their instruments and make unbelievable music. In a day and age where great Jazz music is fighting for it's life, Pat and band reminded everyone that great music still lives if you care to seek it out and here the people who still enjoy it. you could never go wrong by seeing Pat in any format with and cast of characters !

Pat Metheny and his Unity Band rolled into the Town Hall in NYC and brought the house down! A mix of material from the new album, some old Metheny material and some standards, the show was top notch from start to finish, a finish that included three encores (including th le usual rousing rendition of Are You Going With Me?) and a curtain call. Can't wait for the new PMG album next year and a tour in 2014!

This was without a doubt one of the best concerts I've ever seen. My seats were in the back of the theater, and though I've sat near the front and in the balcony, I;ve been in Townhall 6 or 7 times, these back seats were great, They afforded an excellent view of the stage, better then the front of the theater. As far as the music goes these guys were truly amazing. Pat was as usual the genius he always is. but Chris Potter is perhaps one of the finest sax players in contemporary jazz today. Antonio Sanchez blew me away and the bass player, Williams held his own. All in all these guys did not disappoint.

not a big jazz fan but my girl is and i got her tickets as a surprise. The show was fantastic, the musicans amazing and the band was really into it. Great great show. Too bad the seats at Town Hall are children size. Go see them.

Sound was terrible. Could only hear drums and guitar. Ben williams and potter where so burried in the mix it was dissapointing to not be able to clearly hear them all.

For sheer virtuosity, there are few if any peers to Pat Metheny and his Unity Band. From the 42-string Pikasso opener, to such songs as "New Year" and the mesmerizing Orchestrion piece "Signals", there were some amazing moments. I have played and observed guitar and guitarists for years, and I found Metheny to be the most lyrical, technically proficient picker I've ever seen. The problems (and there were few) with the show came when the technical proficiency and prowess got a little carried away with itself, such as during Metheny's duo with sax man Chris Potter, when I actually found myself wishing it would end. Speaking of Potter, he too was an awesome talent; wish we could have heard the flute more before the encore. Bassist Ben Williams was rock-solid all night, never straying too far from home. And drummer Antonio Sanchez was superb.

Attended with my 16-yo son....I told him he was witnessing greatness. He'll be able to tell his grandkids "I saw Pat Metheny play with Antonio Sanchez"...these guys must be supernatural because humans can't do that.

Absolutely phenomenal! Metheny is one of the musical geniuses of our time. All of the unity band musicians are among the best on their instruments. The variety playhouse, however, has out lived its time - needs to be radically updated or relegated to novelty acts.
