Favorite moment: Any time he played James Gang repertoire. Dedicating "I Shall Be Released" to the late Levon Helm, featuring the background singers on lead. @
Setlist: (Not in Order:) Analog Man, Walk Away, The Bomber/Bolero, All Night Long, Life in the Fast Lane, In the City, Personal Manager/Funk #49, Turn to Stone, Life's Been Good, Rocky Mountain Way, The Band Played On, I Shall Be Released, Life of Illusion @
Opening act(s): JD and the Straight Shot. James Dolan has no business opening for any big-time band. The only cheer he got in his entire set was when he said, "This is going to be the last song!" @
When people talk about the great Rock guitarists they mention the names Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Beck, but Joe Walsh certainly deserves to be part of that conversation. His body of work from The James Gang, The Eagles and of course his own solo albums is truly formidable. Now 65, Joe is at the peak of his game. Though the weathered face has clearly seen a few miles, he certainly doesn't PLAY old! The other night at the Paramount, Joe Walsh gave a virtuoso performance that was truly a "master class" in Rock Guitar. He amply demonstrated that he is as good as any Rock and Roll guitarist alive. Funky comping, ferocious power chords, screaming leads, wailing slide, and nuanced acoustic playing are all part of his repertoire. His music covers a wide swath of styles, and he put together a nice set of known "hits" and "album cuts" for the hardcore fans. Joe had fun, the band had fun, the audience had fun. It was a wonderful performance and well worth the higher-than-usual ticket prices for the Paramount. Thanks for bringing him to Huntington!
