This is the third time I've seen TR. The band was fun to watch and Kassim seemed to be having a great time. They've been touring for a year so Todd was doing quite a bit of screaming as his high end vocals were probably not up to par. But his distinctive voice still came through well for the most part. I wasn't familiar with the Arena album but it was cool to watch them perform it not knowing what was coming next. Todd also put out some classics to satisfy us longtime fans. He's a never miss event as far as I'm concerned!
Downside was the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. Intimate venue but no standing at the stage and mediocre acoutics took away from a great show.

My rating is no reflection on Todd's performance. He gives all he has and appears to have fun doing it. I love Todd's music and the thing I enjoy best about him is that he can write very melodic pieces in almost any genre. That said, his latest CD, Arena-released in 2008, has plenty of rock to go around and I play it almost every day. This particular performance spotlighted the Arena CD but also mixed in about 8-10 other songs that go back 3 decades. The problem with the Coach House (or maybe with Todd's setup) is that the venue had so much distortion for the first few songs I could literally not hear the vocals at times. Once he got to the Arena CD, which he played front to back, some of the sound issues were resolved but still I wanted to them to turn down the overbearing guitars and distortion I was hearing. I made the mistake of forgetting my earplugs for the evening. I'm paying for that today with ringing in my ears. It's not pleasant. Now, I have heard bands play at the Honda Center with similar distortion problems, but then saw the Police at the Honda Center and they had no distortion issues. But that's an area with 15,000 people. The Coach House is a borderline dive-bar with less than a 1,000 people. I guess it's a matter of the music and the way it's presented. But for Todd to be such a great producer and writer and then to listen to the "noise" produced during his concert, it was a bit disappointing. I like hearing his voice. It just wasn't to be on this night. It's not the first time I've been to the Coach House when they've had poor sound...but it will be my last. I'm not going back.

Tood was spot on with his musical abilities, but everyone at my table were there for the oldies. When he did squeak out a couple oldies, the crowd went wild. Not to say his new stuff didnt rock, it did, but with these troubled times, I was there to drift back in time to those beautiful songs that only the Rundgren Sutan combo could do. Just wanted to drit back to "Can we still be friends" "Real Man" etc etc. I do have to admit I left dissapointed.

Todd Rocked. Good band. Todd's vocals were a highlight. Took me a while to get used to the '09 sound. Todd was funny and irreverent. Very comfortable on stage...good rapport.
Loved "Today." Many of the songs from the Arena album were quite "singable", but I did not prep by getting the album beforehand. Thus it took awhile to lock in on the words.
Don't go if you expect "Hello, it's me." If you want to hear his current approach with a loud tight band, don't miss it.

Todd and his most worthy band put on a great show at the German House, though it seemed to take forever for the show to start after the opening act. Once they hit the stage, it was Todd at his best, playing his butt off, singing like a much younger man ( can it really be possible to sound BETTER with age? ) and making his own special political commentary along the way. Great crowd also, everyone there to appreciate Our Hero and the unique comaraderie among strangers that seems to occur at every Todd show was in evidence at this one as well.

The German House venue was as big as a banquet hall. After the mediocre opening act, Todd and the band took the stage half an hour later. Even though the audio mixing was fair at best, there were many memorable moments where Todd and his 4 piece band totally rocked. Todd and his lead guitar player intermingled some great licks. I haven't listened to Mr. Rungren since the mid seventies but I plan on buying the new CD "Arena" today. Glad I went and had a good time.

This was the 4th time I saw this particular concert; this time with a new bass player. She was great on the bass. Todd's back was stiff but except for the lack of "big kicks" was in great voice and the band was really good...definitely into the music. Standing close to the band is always a big plus as well....which is why the German House was a good venue. I hope that Todd continues to tour for a long time - their performance belies their ages.

Todd and company played at the German House in Rochester, NY last evening to small but enthusiastic crowd on a Tuesday evening. Todd never ceases to amaze with his high power, hard driving command of sound and stage. This is the second show on the Arena Tour I have been to, the first being the Tralf in Buffalo. That show was equally as impressive and made this visit in my hometown a must. I would highly encourage the purchase of the Arena CD as it is politically relevent in its lyrics as well as the powerful music put forth from the man himself! Don't miss it!

As he has done for the last few years, Todd came back to rock in Rochester. The show's set list was pretty much a repeat of the show last year at Nola's. The songs from Arena sound much better live so it was good to hear them again. The band sounded tight with Kasim Sulton and a new bass player for this show. A great evening of music, Todd didn't disappoint.

This was an Arena show. That means he plays a few gems on the front and back side of the show, but the main portion of the concert is his latest album "Arena", in its entirety. I think a lot of the casual fans in the crowd expected some sort of greatest hits show -- They don't know Todd very well. So, there were some walkers. However, a great core of about 300 diehards were hanging on every note for the full hour and 45 minutes. The band is tight. Lots of guitar leads from Todd and Jesse. Fun to watch Kasim playing guitar and keys.

As a huge Todd fan and an AWATS lover, this show was amazing! There was only a single glitch with costuming, but it was the first night of the tour and, well, what can I say?, it did not diminish a thing for me. The costumes were great, the vocals were spot on, the music was worthy of, well, a wizard, a true star. Having spent months in my room when this album was first released listening to every detail with headphones and getting to know it inside and out, I have to say that Todd's and the band's renditions of this tried and true classic was fantastic, well done, and quite a lot of fun to witness. It was very obvious to me that the musicians had a high energy level and were truly enjoying the craft. The fact that I had the woman I love beside me for all the love songs made them even more meaningful and enjoyable for me. If you have a chance to see this show and don't make the effort, SHAME ON YOU!

Any Todd Rundgren concert is a memorable event. The Wizard, a True Star concert was awesome. Todd is not only an excellent song writer and singer, but an outstanding performer as well. I have followed his music for 35 years and still am in awe of his technical and musical wizardry. The extrordinary variety, number, and quality of his costume changes threwout the concert was exceptionally innovative and a real pleasure to watch. Performing with Roger Powell, Kasim Sultan, Jesse Gress, Prairie Prince, and Todd's own wife Michelle was a real treat to see. An experience I will not soon forget. We're looking forward to Todd's next tour to our area. Hopefully in the near future. Thanks Todd for an excellent performance yet again. You never let us down.

Todd and Utopia put on a fantastic evening of entertainment. The sound mixing in the Utopia set made it difficult to hear words but this improved after intermission when Todd Rundgren & his band played music from his Wizard a True Star album. The show was full of surprises with all the crazy costume changes... from the opening space suit, to a bright orange shirt and pants, shiny gold spandex suit, inflatable fat boy suit, chef outfit.... Todd kept us amused. He and his utopia band: Roger Powell and Kasim Sulton with new band additions played the favorites and made the crowd go crazy.

Todd Rundgren and his ensemble planned and delivered one of the most professional and entertaining performances I have ever seen. I was amazed at the attention to detail in the performance in both the music and the theatrics. Todd changed his costume for almost every song in A Wizard, A True Star. The band was tight and played the Wizard album the way it was originally recorded. I had high expectations going into the concert and I was blown away that they could pull off such a challenging performance. I am happy that I was fortunate enough to be in the auditorium.
