From Sarah Watkins opening, the the last sweet strains of Paradise, John Prine did not disappoint! What a classic. He is the master of the clever lyric, and his performance Friday night was no exception. He played all of his classics that he could fit into two hours, I hung on every note. I traveled from Wisconsin to British Columbia and back again, smiling the whole way. Why? Went to see John Prine!

In the relatively intimate setting of Vancouver's Center for Performaing Art, John Prine returned from a challenging encounter with mortality and with two highly competent associates on bass and lead guitar, capped his creative career with an energetic and lengthy (2 12/ hour) set hitting high lights of his creatinive song writing and interpretation. The connection with the adooring audience was strong and hearetfelt. Once in a lifetime concert!

I saw John for the first time, about twenty three years ago. He was really good then. But this time he took it to a much higher level than I was prepared for! I seldom wait for the last tune of the night at any concert. But I couldn't even think about leaving early this time!
And his band was A-Plus also! The warm up music was amazing as well! I was blown away by the whole experience!!

What a great concert. John sang some of the great oldies from his early albums. The venue was a great place for a performance like this. He was his usual talkative self and put on a wonderful performance.

Setlist: I do not remember the entire set list but he played several of his best stuff as well as a few I have not heard before. @

Opening act(s): Kerri Rodriguez(?) forgive me if I spelt her name wrong. She was part of a duet, and they brought the house down with their performance. @

The seats were excellent, the acoustics amazing, the opening act was great as well. The crowd was well behaved. John Prine sounded great and displayed why he is such a fantastic draw. I will be sure to attend any further shows of his.

The Midland Theatre is beautiful! Good thing too, cause you're never gonna see the performers from your seat! I suppose the seating was carried over from the original layout which is nice, but with 4 rows of folding chairs on each "step" or level it becomes very hard to see unless you are in the front row of that level. Perhaps they could take about 5 chairs out of each row to at least allow some side to side moving for a view. JOHN PRINE WAS GREAT THOUGH! He's slowing things down as he ages but he told a story behind almost every song - more intimate than I have ever seen him with an audience. A great show if only I could have seen more.......

I experienced my first John Prine concert this weekend, and only want to kick myself for not going years ago. The Midland is one of the most beautiful venues to experience a concert, both visually and acoustically. A performer with Prine's personality, playlist and poetry combined to make it a night my husband and I will remember for a long, long time. It was good for the soul.

What an entertainer! John Prine was in rare form and the selection of songs was all over the place. The tempo was very easy going and relaxing. Would have loved to hear Dear Abby and Big Old Goofy World but instead got to hear others that arent's part of the usual sets. Dave Jacques and Jason Wilber are by far the best bass and guitar players on the earth. John Prine is a wonderful complement to their talents.

This was the best concert we have ever been to by anyone. John was even better than when we saw him years ago. The new songs were great and he played all the old favorites as well. His back up guys were incredible.

Catch John if at all possible - especially with Iris Dement!!!

My boyfriend and I took my Mom, who is a long time Prine fan, to his Saturday night concert. It was great! First of all, Prine is an incredible songwriter and listening to his stories about the song inspirations was wonderful. And this was our first time at the Midland Theater...it was awesome! Not only is it a beautiful venue, but the sound quality was perfect!

I had never heard of John Prine until my girlfriend played In Spite of Ourselves for me. I have been hooked ever since. He has a way with words a measure beyond practically any artist that I can think of. His music will get you dancing, laughing, bring tears to your eyes or any combination of the three. See him before it is too late. He is truly a master of his art.

John was great as always. An excellent concert except for the boorish members of the crowd who seemed to think it was all right to hoot and holler during songs. John and his 2 band members played and sounded good, and the opening act was good as well. His choice of songs made for a well paced show and mixed old favorites with newer material. The Midland in Kansas City is a beautiful old theater, restored with great attention to detail. We drove to KC from St. Louis and it was definitely worth the trip.

I have seen John in concert more than any other performer and I still enjoy the music that brings so much emotion.
He handles the audience so well and worked in the requests.
The audience this time was so much more lively and involved over the last one at the Uptown Theater when I got glared at for singing along or tapping my foot.
This was fun!
