I can't decide if it's bad or good that Peter's following is so small in Portland. It was good for us that not many people were there, because we got great seats, and he played to the audience like a living room gathering. This was an intimate show, with conversation and interaction, not to mention really great music - some of which has underpinned the psyches of most of the members of the audience for more than 20 years.
On the other hand, Peter is phenomenal, and it makes me sad that this was not a sold-out show at the Rose Garden. The new generation needs to get some of his poetry tumbling around in their emotional make-up. What would have made it amazing? If he had performed Cascade. And if he had stayed onstage just 20 minutes longer. It went far too fast for me.

I have been a fan for more than 20 years and never imagined such an intimate show. Peter and his band were spot on and tight. There was a real feel of the flow of music from the man and his boys. They covered some of my favorites from his large catalog. You know how you wish he would play that song - for me he did, many times. The crowd was very small which was odd - maybe it was because of not promoting a new album. The thin crowd allowed us to get right up to the stage - WOW! The House of Blues Rocks and I thank them for hosting the man.

Well, what can I say? Always impressive, always surprising. I completely didn't expect a version of Lennon's "Instant Karma", nor did I expect to hear my favorite, "Time Has Got Nothing to do with It", but that would describe Peter Murphy quite well - unexpected. Also, he somehow seems to always connect with the audience on a personal level, making some kind of joke or comment to let us know that we are part of the show right along with him. The audio was a bit muddled at first, but improved later. He played some new material from the upcoming album and some of his older material. It was a shame that event wasn't well attended as in the past, but I never regret seeing Peter live. Well worth the time spent. Some of his best work is the stuff that seems overlooked by most audiences, but he manages to play it at the concert and impress nonetheless. Great show.
